Following the massive success of Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan is building on that momentum with an even more ambitious project: a new movie adaptation of The Odyssey. Like his other films, it will feature stunning, large-format visuals and be filmed using practical effects, avoiding heavy reliance on CGI. The cast is incredibly star-studded – when it was announced, it seemed like almost every major actor in Hollywood was involved! Matt Damon will play Odysseus, and he’ll be joined by Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway as Penelope, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, and Jon Bernthal, to name just a few.
A new TV spot for The Odyssey dropped this weekend, and it included a surprising announcement: Travis Scott, the Grammy-nominated rapper, is in the film. Neither Universal nor director Christopher Nolan had mentioned his involvement beforehand, making it a complete surprise to fans. This is actually a tactic Nolan has used before – keeping a cameo role a secret until release.

New scenes from the movie The Odyssey show Scott playing a storyteller, a common role in that era. He retells important parts of Odysseus’s story, including the plan to use the Trojan horse and the bravery that ended the war. Though it’s a short scene, Scott’s appearance made a strong impression on viewers, sparking a lot of online discussion – some were confused, and others were upset.
You know, one thing I’ve noticed about Christopher Nolan – and the guy deserves all his Oscars – is his knack for casting choices that initially make you scratch your head. He’ll bring someone in who you wouldn’t immediately think would be right for a role, and then they absolutely kill it. Remember when he cast Josh Peck in Oppenheimer just a few years ago? Everyone was questioning that one until the movie came out and he was fantastic. It’s not surprising to see Travis Scott appear in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, given their past collaborations. Scott previously created and performed the song “The Plan” for Nolan’s film Tenet, which Nolan highly praised. He called Scott’s contribution the final element needed for the film and lauded his insightful contributions to the music and story.
