The Odyssey Star Reveals MCU-Level Of Secrecy While Auditioning For Christopher Nolan’s Next Movie

I’m so excited for Christopher Nolan’s new movie, The Odyssey, which is coming out in July 2026! It’s been amazing how quiet they’ve been about the casting, but one of the actors let slip that they’ve assembled an incredible group. Knowing Nolan – the director of Oppenheimer – it’s going to be visually stunning and epic, just like all his films.

I’m so excited about the new movie, The Odyssey! Matt Damon is going to be Odysseus, which is amazing, and the rest of the cast is incredible – Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Elliot Page, Mia Goth, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong’o, and even Jon Bernthal are all involved! Empire magazine just released some first-look photos, and we’re finally finding out which legendary characters everyone is playing.

Now that Anne Hathaway has been cast as Penelope, Odysseus’ wife, it’s been confirmed that Jenna Ortega, known for her roles in Pearl and Frankenstein, will play Melantho, one of Penelope’s maids. Ortega, a rising star, recently shared in an interview with Happy Sad Confused how intimidating it was to meet director Christopher Nolan for the first time.

Jenna Ortega mentioned the audition process for ‘The Odyssey’ was very secretive, similar to how major Hollywood franchises keep the characters actors are trying out for hidden. She didn’t get to read the script or even confirm her role until she had officially accepted the part. You can find her complete statement below.

I auditioned for a production of The Odyssey. The audition itself used scenes that weren’t actually from the play. Surprisingly, I got the part without even knowing what the role was! I had to accept the job first, and then I was able to read the script and find out what I’d be playing. It was a really unusual way to get cast.

Following the success of Oppenheimer, director Christopher Nolan had a lot more attention, which created new anticipation for his film The Odyssey. For a while, the cast was kept largely under wraps – we knew who was in the movie, but not which characters they would play, leading to a lot of guessing and speculation about how the story would unfold.

In addition to previous announcements, Zendaya will play the goddess Athena and Robert Pattinson will portray Antinous, a deceitful suitor of Penelope. Tom Holland is also expected to play Telemachus, Odysseus’ son. After a short teaser trailer released earlier this year, a full trailer for The Odyssey may be coming soon.

Everyone’s expecting The Odyssey to be a huge film next year – it’s set to be a major movie event, especially considering Christopher Nolan’s reputation for large-scale filmmaking. While keeping the plot secret from auditioning actors might have been overkill – the story is already famous – Nolan and his team likely had a good reason, and there are probably still some surprises in store.
