The Outer Worlds 2 Features Pets, Including a Protectorate Drone

If you noticed potential pet companions in the recent trailer for *The Outer Worlds 2*, you’ll be happy to know they’re included in the game from the start. Obsidian Entertainment hasn’t said exactly how many pets there will be, but director Brandon Alder told Game Informer that at least one is confirmed and explained how the pet system works.

Our game features a wide variety of creatures. We started with a huge list and carefully chose which ones would work best as player pets.

You can find pets in a variety of ways – in the wild, by buying them, or even as rewards. You’re allowed to have one pet accompany you and another stay on your ship. For example, the Protectorate Drone is a pet, but because it can’t fight, it makes you question the abilities of other pets.

Players enjoy having pets – caring for them, interacting with them, and bringing them along on adventures. You can collect many pets, but only one can be actively with you at a time. You choose which pet accompanies you on your ship, and they’ll stay there. While pets can’t be killed, the developer hinted that players can choose to treat them kindly or unkindly – the choice is yours.

The highly anticipated game, *The Outer Worlds 2*, will be available on October 29th for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC. Players will be excited to know it includes both pets and a frequently requested feature: the ability to switch to a third-person camera view whenever you like. Obsidian Entertainment hadn’t initially planned to include this option, but decided to add it about two years ago. You can find more details about the decision here.
