Disney is famous for its animated movies, having created many critically acclaimed films over the years. However, the company also produces fantastic animated series, like The Owl House, which concluded in 2023 and quickly became a fan favorite. Though the story of Luz Noceda won’t continue in a new series, its creator, Dana Terrace, is still working in animation. Recently, she’s been in the news for a surprising reason: she publicly criticized Disney for its interest in using artificial intelligence.
Dana Terrace, creator of the animated series “The Owl House” and a new pilot called “The Knights of Guinevere,” strongly criticized Disney’s decision to use artificial intelligence. On social media, she even urged fans to illegally download her show as a protest, stating she didn’t mind if they cancelled their Disney+ subscriptions and pirated “The Owl House” because of it. As of now, Disney hasn’t officially responded to Terrace’s comments, but it’s likely they will remain quiet as they continue to explore using AI in their projects.
Disney’s Artificial Intelligence Endeavor

The criticism comes after Disney CEO Bob Iger spoke about the company’s plans for artificial intelligence during a recent financial discussion. Iger explained that AI will allow Disney+ users to have a more interactive experience, including the ability to both create and watch short videos made by other users.
Iger mentioned Disney is exploring the exciting possibilities of AI. He believes it could improve their streaming services by making them more engaging and allowing users to create content directly within those platforms. However, as shown by Dana Terrace’s reaction and many fans, AI still has a ways to go before it’s widely accepted.
Although Terrace and Disney are currently at odds, Dana previously mentioned last year that she didn’t foresee a continuation of the world she built for the company, possibly ever. She specifically stated she didn’t want a fourth season of The Owl House and didn’t want to base her career around a single show. However, she added that if her mind ever changed, she would announce it herself, not through rumors on social media.
