DC Studios has had a very successful year. Over the last twelve months, they’ve finally launched the DC Universe with new releases like the *Creature Commandos* animated series, Season 2 of *Peacemaker*, and a brand new *Superman* movie – the first in over a decade. Despite a minor setback, the studio is optimistic about continuing this momentum in 2026 with planned projects like *Supergirl*, *Clayface*, and the *Lanterns* TV series, with even more films and shows on the way. Recently, a highly anticipated DC villain was revealed, but unfortunately, fans are realizing they won’t be seeing that character come to life.
Zack Snyder, the director behind early DC Comics movies like *Man of Steel*, *Batman v Superman*, and *Justice League*, is still sharing exclusive photos with his fans. He recently revealed a new image of Henry Cavill as Superman, and now he’s done the same with Joe Manganiello, who played the villain Deathstroke in Snyder’s films.
Zack Snyder Reveals New Look at Joe Manganiello’s “Perfect” Deathstroke

For years, DC fans have wondered what director Zack Snyder had planned for the future of the DC Extended Universe after *Justice League*, particularly regarding Joe Manganiello’s teased role as a villain. These plans, including Manganiello’s Deathstroke being the main enemy in Ben Affleck’s ultimately cancelled Batman movie, never materialized. Fans did get a glimpse of the character’s potential with the release of *Zack Snyder’s Justice League*, which featured Manganiello reprising his role in an alternate, dystopian future where Deathstroke allies with Batman, Mera, Cyborg, and The Joker.
Zack Snyder recently shared a new photo of Joe Manganiello as Deathstroke, offering fans another glimpse of his vision for the character from the director’s cut of the film. He thanked Manganiello for perfectly embodying the role. Fans reacted enthusiastically to the image, but many expressed sadness that this particular version of Deathstroke is unlikely to appear in future films anytime soon.
Fans are still hoping for the continuation of Zack Snyder’s DC universe, with one user writing, “We want this universe to be restored!” Others are specifically requesting the release of the Ben Affleck Batman movie, using the hashtag “MakeTheBatfleckMovie.” While some remain dedicated to the ‘SnyderVerse,’ many commenters on Snyder’s post seem to have accepted that it won’t continue, but are happy to receive any new content he shares. One fan wrote, “Keep em coming, Boss!” while another asked for more details about potential projects, like the Ben Affleck Batman, Green Lantern, or Martian Manhunter, even just concept art.
While some fans still want Zack Snyder to finish his vision for DC movies, the current plan for DC films seems firmly set by James Gunn. However, Gunn has added to the speculation by meeting with Snyder and sharing it online, though he later clarified that Snyder is focused on his own projects and isn’t planning a return to DC.
Could we see Snyder’s story continued in some way down the line? While anything is possible – look at how the Snyder Cut came to be – for now, we’ll have to rely on what Snyder hints at until there’s a concrete announcement.
