The Perfect Replacement For One Of The Best Dark Thrillers Ever Made Hits Netflix This Week

David Fincher’s *Zodiac*, released almost twenty years ago, is still considered one of the greatest dark thrillers of all time. The film, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and based on the books by Robert Graysmith, tells the story of the real investigation into the Zodiac Killer and continues to draw viewers in. If you enjoyed *Zodiac*, you might also like shows like *Mindhunter* and *Memories of Murder*. Soon, there will be another option: a four-part cold case drama arriving on Netflix October 22nd, which could be exactly what fans of *Zodiac* are looking for.

Netflix is releasing a new true crime drama this week called *The Monster of Florence*. Created by Stefano Sollima and Leonardo Fasoli, the series explores the real-life investigation into Italy’s first known serial killer. Between 1968 and 1985, the unidentified killer terrorized the Tuscan hills, murdering eight couples with a .22 caliber Beretta. The case became one of Italy’s most famous and puzzling investigations. The series stars Marco Bullitta, Valentino Mannias, Francesca Olia, Liliana Bottone, Giacomo Fadda, Antonio Tintis, and Giordano Mannu.

Netflix’s The Monster of Florence Is Perfect for Fans of Zodiac

If you’re a fan of David Fincher’s *Zodiac* and have practically memorized it, let me tell you about a new series you need to check out on Netflix: *The Monster of Florence*. Though set in Italy, it shares a lot of DNA with *Zodiac*. Both stories are built around real, decades-old unsolved cases – in fact, the Florence case is often compared to the Zodiac killings. What really grabbed me is how both focus on the obsessive hunt for a killer who always seems just out of reach. This four-part series dives deep into the suspects and theories, and from what I’ve gathered, it brilliantly recreates the sense of fear and distrust that gripped Italy – much like *Zodiac* did for America. It’s a really compelling watch if you enjoy true crime that feels meticulously researched and atmospheric.

Netflix’s *The Monster of Florence* hasn’t been rated on Rotten Tomatoes yet, but Tobias Jones of *The Guardian* wrote that the story of the Florence Monster has a way of captivating people—prosecutors, journalists, filmmakers, and even casual observers. He notes that as more names, facts, and connections are gathered, the story moves away from being a straightforward true crime account and becomes more of a cautionary tale about how difficult it is to find the truth.

Now Streaming on Netflix

Netflix added a lot of great new shows and movies in October! If you enjoy true crime, check out *The Perfect Neighbor*, a documentary about the tragic shooting of Ajike Owens and Florida’s Stand Your Ground law. The latest season of Netflix’s *Monster* series, focusing on Ed Gein, is also available now. Other new additions you won’t want to miss include Season 3 of *The Diplomat*, *The Martian*, and the second season of *Nobody Wants This*, premiering October 23rd.

You can start watching *The Monster of Florence* on Netflix beginning October 22nd. If you’re interested in similar true crime content, *Zodiac* is currently streaming on Paramount+ and MGM+, and is also available for rent or purchase on demand.
