The Pitt Season 2, Episode 12 Recap: What Dana Did With Emma’s Attacker

Be warned, this article reveals key plot points from the season 2 finale of The Pitt (episode 12). While Dana managed to help Emma, the episode also left viewers with questions about the identity and motives of the attacker. After a series of intense and difficult episodes, the characters in The Pitt finally experience a moment of relief. The Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center is reopening, the night shift is starting work, and the situation is beginning to improve.

Wow, the season 2 finale of The Pitt was a bit of a rollercoaster! While it felt a little lighter overall, it still kept me on the edge of my seat with so much tension and drama. And of course, they left us with another cliffhanger! There was so much to unpack – I’m still thinking about how Dana managed to save Emma, and that huge fight between her and Robby was intense. We definitely need to talk about everything that happened!

PTMC’s Digital Systems Are Coming Back, But Robby May Not Be Leaving Yet

This week on The Pitt, things are looking up for the hospital. The cyberattack threat that PTMC has been facing is finally easing after several tense hours. Other hospitals chose to pay the hackers’ ransom, but Dr. Al-Hashimi confirmed that PTMC trusts its own security systems and is getting ready to restore its digital operations. That means doctors and nurses should be able to stop relying on pen and paper, likely starting next week.

Things are finally getting back to normal at the hospital – the computers are working again, and the night shift is starting to arrive. Honestly, it feels like the perfect time for Robby to go home. But I have a feeling he’ll stick around until the end of the season, and it all comes down to his friend, Duke. Duke just had a CT scan, and if the results aren’t good, I’m pretty sure Robby will stay to help him through it.

Besides Duke’s situation, Robby might be delaying his hospital departure for other reasons. He’s increasingly coming up with excuses to stay, as his conversation with Dana showed. For example, he seems hesitant about Al-Hashimi taking over the emergency room in his absence, and he might use this as a reason to postpone his sabbatical. His eagerness to help the last patient, Orlando, also suggests he’s not quite ready to leave.

Dana Probably Hit Emma’s Attacker Before Injecting Him With Versed

This week’s episode of The Pitt picked up right where the last one left off. In season 2, episode 11, a new nurse named Emma was attacked by an intoxicated golfer who put her in a headlock. Dana quickly intervened and sedated the attacker, Curtis, though he ended up with a bloody nose and probably a concussion. While we didn’t see the full rescue, it’s clear what happened during the struggle.

It seems Dana likely struck Curtis in the face – probably with a punch or elbow – before giving him a sedative. She doesn’t take risks with aggressive patients or threats to staff, and that’s the most probable reason for his broken nose. Later, Robby figured out Dana had been carrying Versed, a sedative, ever since Doug Driscoll punched her during the events of The Pitt in season 1.

Dana & Robby Butted Heads Over Emma’s Attacker

Even after Dana punched and sedated Curtis, the problems continued. She was incredibly stressed from her shift and briefly broke down crying. Robby also confronted her, upset with how she dealt with Emma’s attacker. They argued about it further in the ambulance bay.

Robby wasn’t upset that Dana had brought Versed for self-defense or to protect a nurse. His concern was that she was taking the law into her own hands instead of following hospital procedures for dealing with aggressive patients. He was worried she could lose her nursing license and about potential problems for PTMC, since she’s in a leadership position there.

Dana didn’t back down and confronted Robby, explaining that he needs to deal with his ongoing issues with Langdon and stop taking responsibility for Langdon’s errors. She sarcastically called him a ‘martyr’ for trying to control the constant chaos in the ER. Most pointedly, she reminded him that the hospital had functioned perfectly well after Dr. Adamson, his mentor, left, implying it would do just fine without him too.

Santos Learned That Whitaker Is House Sitting For Robby

Dr. Santos had a rough day that continued in the twelfth episode of The Pitt‘s second season. She found out Robby had asked Whitaker to look after her place while she was away, leading to an awkward conversation. Eventually, Whitaker realized Santos actually enjoys having him as a roommate, and he playfully insisted she say it out loud, resulting in a sweet moment.

The brief happy moment quickly faded when Santos learned Whitaker was house-sitting, adding to an already difficult day. Santos has been facing a lot of challenges this season. Between Garcia clearly defining their relationship as casual, Langdon’s return causing her anxiety, and errors with her patients, she’s now worried Whitaker will move out and leave her feeling isolated.

Right before Santos talked to Whitaker, she quietly took a scalpel from a nearby cart and hid it in her pocket. This, along with the self-harm scars seen in season 2, episode 7 of The Pitt, suggests Santos’s mental state is worsening. This could explain why Whitaker’s plan to move out upset her so much – even Huckleberry, someone she acts like she dislikes, is leaving her.

Mohan Figured Out That An Elderly Couple’s Injuries May Have Been Caused By Medication

In the twelfth episode of The Pitt season 2, Doctors Mohan and King treated a challenging case: an elderly woman injured by a car driven by her husband. Their daughter wanted them to move into assisted living, but the couple resisted. Dr. Mohan eventually realized the husband’s declining physical skills might be a side effect of his medications, and they adjusted his treatment plan.

After Mohan successfully identified the issue with a patient’s medication, Dr. Robby suggested she consider a fellowship in geriatrics after finishing her time in the emergency room. Dr. Al-Hashimi had previously mentioned geriatrics as a good fit for Mohan, but Robby’s suggestion included a subtly critical comment about how it would suit her slower working style.

The season 2 finale of The Pitt left viewers with a tense moment involving Mohan. Earlier in the season, Mohan cared for a patient named Orlando, who had diabetes and left the hospital before finishing his treatment. Mohan cautioned Orlando that his health could worsen, but Orlando needed to keep working to make ends meet. In this week’s episode, Mohan’s fears were realized when Orlando collapsed while on the job.
