‘The Punisher’ Special Runtime Revealed as Jon Bernthal Gears Up for MCU Return

Jon Bernthal will reprise his role as Frank Castle, The Punisher, in two projects planned for 2026. This is a major step for the character, moving him from his original Netflix series into the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). One of these projects is a special presentation, sometimes called a one-shot special, that will stream on Disney+ around the middle of the year, timed to connect with the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Bernthal’s character will have a more substantial role after appearing in the first season of Daredevil: Born Again, and his solo project is set to have a remarkably long runtime when it premieres.

The upcoming Punisher Special Presentation will be Marvel Studios’ longest special to date, running for a full 60 minutes, according to a listing on the Writers Guild of America website. This is longer than the previous two specials: Werewolf by Night (53 minutes) and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special (42 minutes). The listing also describes the presentation as an action-packed adventure, promising an exciting experience for fans.

According to executive producer Sana Amanat, Frank Castle won’t be involved in the next season of the Daredevil series; instead, his story will continue in this special presentation.
