The latest episode of The Simpsons revealed what happened to Moe Szyslak’s long-lost fiancée, explaining her absence after many years. Season 37 of The Simpsons is currently airing on FOX on Sunday nights, and even though the season is new, it’s already delivered some significant moments. After a popular Treehouse of Horror episode, the show returned to its regular storyline and revisited a major romance from recent seasons.
Maya was first introduced on The Simpsons in Season 20 as a potential love interest for Moe. Their relationship developed, and they even became engaged in Season 33. However, the character disappeared for a while, despite being a significant addition to the show. Luckily, Maya recently returned in a new episode of Season 37, confirming she and Moe are still planning their wedding – though there’s a funny, unexpected obstacle in the way.
The Simpsons Finally Brings Back Maya in Season 37

In the latest season of The Simpsons, the women of Springfield are annoyed that the men in their lives are being unproductive. They send all the men to a camp designed to help them address this issue. It’s quickly revealed that Maya is still with Moe, and she was the one who encouraged him to attend. Moe explains that they’re engaged and clarifies why viewers haven’t seen them together in four seasons.
Moe confirms he and Maya are still together, explaining that a tradition from his Eastern European background requires them to be apart for five years without contact. This is a funny way to acknowledge Maya’s absence, especially considering how important she was to him, and also confirms they did have a relationship. But that’s not the end of their story, as Maya eventually returns to the show.
What Does This Mean for Moe and Maya’s Future?
The episode concludes with everyone in Springfield back together and in a much happier state than before the camping trip. Maya also returns, sharing a quick hug with Moe before being pulled away by his grandmother – who, surprisingly, is still alive, despite previous jokes suggesting otherwise. Her final line reveals they’ll need to remain separated for another four and a half years, matching the length of time Maya has already been gone.
Maya’s reappearance in the latest episode of The Simpsons is a good sign that the show isn’t ignoring her storyline. While Moe getting married would be a big change, it seems his personality won’t be drastically altered. The wedding is still planned as a major event, and with The Simpsons confirmed to run through Season 40, fans will probably see it happen in the near future.
