There are even more reasons to see The Super Mario Galaxy Movie now! Besides the possibility of Nintendo confirming a popular fan theory, the movie also features Fox McCloud from the beloved Star Fox series. The announcement came as a complete surprise, and they’ve even released a poster showing off his new design.
Calling this a completely new look is a bit of a stretch. Aside from the bright orange fur, slightly different face, and a vest instead of his usual jacket, it’s still clearly Fox. You can even see similarities to his design in Super Smash Bros., like the flight suit and belt buckle. With his Arwing visible in the background, it makes you wonder what kind of space adventures he’ll have this time around.
Okay, this whole thing got me thinking about the bigger picture with the Super Mario movie. Does this mean Fox is officially part of that movie universe now? And seriously, could this be Nintendo dropping hints about a Super Smash Bros. movie down the line? It even makes me wonder if we might see a new Star Fox game eventually. It’s been a while since Star Fox Zero didn’t really land, and even though Nintendo did release Star Fox 2 on the SNES Classic, things have been quiet on that front.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie premieres in US theaters on April 1st, so stay tuned for more details.
