I’m so excited! Nintendo is planning a big reveal this week all about The Super Mario Galaxy Movie! They’ve hinted at a special presentation where we’ll finally get a proper look at the sequel – it’s been a long wait, and I can’t wait to see what Nintendo and Illumination have been working on.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie trailer gets release date for this week
Nintendo announced that the first trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will be revealed during a special Nintendo Direct presentation on Wednesday, November 12th at 6 a.m. Pacific Time / 9 a.m. Eastern Time. The news was shared on the Nintendo Today! app and Nintendo’s X (formerly Twitter) page. This Direct will be dedicated entirely to the movie trailer, with no new game announcements expected.
This announcement comes after a hint earlier this month from industry source @MyTimeToShineHello, who predicted the trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie would be released this Wednesday, November 12th, at 6:00 AM Pacific Time.
The post showcased a promotional poster with two sections. It featured the movie’s title and the Nintendo and Illumination logos set against a starry sky. The image showed multiple Toad characters sailing boats under the night sky, with spaceships flying overhead.
As a movie critic, I’m really looking forward to the upcoming Nintendo Direct. It’s going to be our first proper glimpse at the sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie, slated for 2026! Nintendo and Illumination teased the project back in September 2025, finally revealing the title, and thankfully, Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic are back directing. Plus, Matthew Fogel is returning to write the script, which is great news considering how well the first film flowed.
Chris Pratt voices Mario, while Anya Taylor-Joy is Princess Peach and Charlie Day plays Luigi. Jack Black reprises his role as Bowser, and he’s joined by Keegan-Michael Key as Toad and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
Universal Pictures is releasing a new Super Mario movie, based on Super Mario Galaxy, in US theaters on April 3, 2026, and in Japan on April 24th. The animation is being handled by Illumination Studios Paris, the same team that worked on the successful 2023 Super Mario Bros. Movie, continuing their collaboration with Nintendo.
