Okay, so the final trailer for The Super Mario Bros. Movie just dropped, and honestly, it’s got me even more hyped! Everyone’s talking about it potentially being the biggest movie of the year, which, yeah, I can see happening. But beyond all the cool stuff like Yoshi and Peach’s castle flying around, it looks like there’s a big surprise we haven’t seen yet. And it’s all thanks to the British film board accidentally spilling the beans!
Beware! The following contains spoilers for The Super Mario Bros. Movie. If you haven’t seen it and want to avoid surprises, stop reading now.
The movie received a PG rating from the BBFC, meaning it contains some mild violence – punches, kicks, and lasers, which is common in cartoons. There are also a few scary moments and a little bit of mild rude humor. However, the most noteworthy aspect is that the film briefly shows upsetting flashbacks of a girl being separated from her younger sister.
A popular fan theory suggests that Princess Peach and Rosalina are sisters who were separated as children. While this idea was never confirmed in the Super Mario Galaxy games, Nintendo might finally be addressing it. Some believe they hinted at this connection in the first Super Mario Bros. Movie by showing Baby Peach wearing a skirt decorated with stars and moons.
Only time will tell, but fans who have been hoping for this for a long time would likely be thrilled. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie arrives in US theaters on April 1st.
