The Team Behind Train Sim World Is Making a Full Thomas and Friends Game for PS5, PS4

Everyone says IO Interactive and James Bond were a perfect fit, but we believe their new project is even better.

Okay, so I just heard about this new Thomas & Friends game, “Wonders of Sodor,” and it’s being made by the same people who do Train Sim World – Dovetail Games. Pretty cool if you’re into trains and Thomas, honestly!

Here’s the debut trailer, which is sure to hit readers of a certain age right in the nostalgia:

Created with help from Mattel, this game lets you play as beloved characters from the famous children’s books and TV show, such as:

  • Thomas
  • Percy
  • Gordon
  • Diesel
  • Emily
  • James (separate purchase, or included in the Deluxe Edition)

The game features a complete and accurate recreation of the island of Sodor, and offers multiple ways to play and explore.

The game features eight different stories, blending familiar tales with new ones inspired by the original source. All of these stories are told by Mark Moraghan, the voice actor who played the character in the TV series for many years.

There’s also Timetable mode, where you experience a typical day as one of the characters, completing their regular tasks.

Explore mode lets you freely roam the world of Sodor in first-person, driving trains and walking around as you like. You can even place characters anywhere to create custom scenes.

Shunting Challenge is a puzzle where you rearrange a set of train cars, called Troublesome Trucks, using the fewest possible moves.

The game is easy to pick up and play, with simple controls designed for everyone. However, dedicated train simulation fans will also find more detailed and realistic control options to enjoy.

The game doesn’t have a confirmed release date yet, but it will be available on both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. The standard edition will cost £29.99 in the UK, €34.99 in Europe, and $39.99 in the US.
