Katee Sackhoff is becoming increasingly well-known thanks to roles in shows like *The Mandalorian* (though she admits the experience impacted her confidence), the upcoming movie *Fight or Flight*, and the new *Carrie* miniseries. However, *Battlestar Galactica* remains a significant part of her career. She famously played Kara “Starbuck” Thrace in the reimagined series from the early 2000s, which was based on the original sci-fi show from the 1970s. Surprisingly, Sackhoff recently discovered she wasn’t aware of one of the show’s more unusual storylines while it was airing.
This information came up during a conversation on *The Sackhoff Show* with Charisma Carpenter, best known for her role as Cordelia Chase in *Buffy the Vampire Slayer* and *Angel*. When Carpenter mentioned she hadn’t realized Buffy’s mother had passed away, Katee Sackhoff responded by saying:
The other day, while on stage, Tricia started talking about her character having the first baby born to a Cylon, and I was completely confused. She then mentioned her character had a miscarriage, and I asked who the father was. Turns out it was Colonel Tigh! I honestly had no idea that had happened in the show.
Since Starbuck wasn’t part of that storyline, it makes sense Katee Sackhoff wasn’t aware of it, especially if she hasn’t rewatched *Battlestar Galactica* completely. Plus, it was a pretty unusual plot point in the show anyway.

Katee Sackhoff and Tahmoh Penikett, stars of Battlestar Galactica, recently admitted they initially dismissed advice from their co-star Edward James Olmos – a decision they now regret and jokingly described as telling him to ‘go away’. They now recognize the value of his insights.
Starbuck’s fate was central to the final season of Battlestar Galactica. Now, creator Ron Moore is explaining his decision to leave the show’s ending ambiguous.
Colonel Saul Tigh had a secret affair with Caprica Six, not knowing she was one of the last five Cylons. She later discovered his connection to the Cylons when she became pregnant, and their relationship deepened. Their child would have been the first born to two Cylons who could also reproduce with humans. But when Saul’s wife, Ellen – also one of the Final Five – returned, his affair with Caprica fell apart, and she ultimately lost the baby.
That’s already a pretty incredible story, but it gets even more complex when you consider the Final Five – Galen Tyrol, Sam Anders, Tory Foster, and the others – were actually the last of their kind from the original Earth. They not only brokered peace between humans and the Cylons of the Twelve Colonies, but they also created the eight humanoid Cylon models and gave them the ability to be resurrected. Essentially, this means Tigh unknowingly had a deeply complicated relationship with Number Six, as he was, in a way, her ‘father’.
I’m not really interested in discussing that part of *Battlestar Galactica* in detail, but it was cool to hear Katee Sackhoff found out about it onstage from Tricia Helfer, who played the different versions of Six. It makes me wonder if there are other parts of the story she’s unaware of. Hopefully, she’ll learn about them from her fellow cast members, since she probably doesn’t have time to rewatch the whole show.
