The popular animated movie, starring Pedro Pascal, did very well in theaters when it first came out. Now, it’s reaching even more viewers thanks to streaming, including its recent addition to Peacock.
The movie The Wild Robot is currently very popular on Peacock, ranking as one of the top 10 streaming films in the US. It was first released in theaters in 2024 and proved to be a big hit, earning over $334 million worldwide on a budget of just $78 million. Because of its success, a sequel is in the works, and viewers can still enjoy the original movie while they wait.
The Wild Robot Earned Universal Praise
The movie The Wild Robot was both a commercial and critical success. It received overwhelmingly positive reviews, with a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and audiences loved it even more, giving it a 98% score. The film was nominated for several prestigious awards, including multiple Oscars for Best Animated Feature. It ultimately won this award at both the Annie Awards and the Critics’ Choice Awards.
The movie is based on a book by Peter Brown and was written and directed by Chris Sanders, known for films like Lilo & Stitch and How to Train Your Dragon. Pedro Pascal, star of The Last of Us, provides the voice for Fink, a red fox and friend to Roz, who is voiced by Lupita Nyong’o (Black Panther). The voice cast also features Kit Connor (Heartstopper), Bill Nighy (Living), Mark Hamill (Star Wars), Stephanie Hsu (Everything Everywhere All at Once), Ving Rhames (Pulp Fiction), Matt Berry (What We Do in the Shadows), and the beloved Catherine O’Hara (Schitt’s Creek).
Roz Adapts to Become a Part of the Wild
The movie tells the story of Roz, a robot designed to serve humans who finds herself alone on a deserted island after a shipwreck. With no people to help, Roz has to learn how to survive in the wild. Initially, the island’s animals are wary of her, but she eventually connects with the environment and becomes an accepted part of the natural world, even though she’s a machine.
The next installment in the Wild Robot series will be based on Peter Brown’s second book. Lupita Nyong’o will reprise her role as the voice of Roz, and Troy Quane (known for Nimona) will co-direct alongside Heidi Jo Gilbert, who was head of story on the first film. Chris Sanders is returning to write the screenplay, with Jeff Hermann producing. The Wild Robot Escapes is expected to follow Roz’s journey as she attempts to return to Brightbill and the island, navigating the difficulties of the human world.
The Wild Robot is streaming on Peacock.
