Spoilers for Freakier Friday are ahead!
The long-awaited release of Freakier Friday has graced our 2025 movie schedule, and having recently revisited Freaky Fridayafter a prolonged hiatus, my anticipation was palpable. Needless to say, it didn’t let me down in the slightest. As our review of Freakier Friday affirms, it’s an absolute gem, brimming with delightful nods to the original that are hard to resist. Although I cherished those references, there were two winks to two other films starring Lindsay Lohan that I found even more endearing.
The Girls Screaming Into The Mirror And Running Into Each Other
When reflecting on Freaky Friday, an image that comes to mind is Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis, both in a state of shock while examining their reflections in the mirror upon discovering they’ve exchanged bodies. I really enjoyed this concept being revisited in Freakier Friday. What particularly caught my attention was the fresh take on it – instead of Anna acting like the Crypt Keeper, Lily in Tess’s body expresses her feelings as if she’s “decaying in a gruesome manner.
Apart from their scheduled encounter, Harper and Lily often find themselves accidentally colliding, reminiscent of how Anna and Tess first interacted. It’s endearing as well, given that Anna and Tess remind the youngsters that their initial attempt didn’t exactly go smoothly.

The Original Women Who Caused Freaky Friday’s Switch Showed Up
In case you may recall, during a dinner outing, the character Pei-Pei, portrayed by Rosalind Chao, and her mother, played by Lucille Soong, in the movie Freaky Friday, were the ones who instigated the body swap.
In the movie “Freaky Friday,” the swap occurs following interactions between Anna, Tess, Harper, Lily, and Vanessa Bayer’s character, Madame Jen. This time around, Pei-Pei and her mother are not involved in causing the switch. However, they are present at the party where the incident takes place, as they are guests there.
Instead, when Anna and Tess understand the potential consequences, they instinctively attempt to shift the blame towards the women who initially instigated the situation. Yet, on this occasion, they were completely innocent and had no part in the mischief whatsoever.

The Use Of ‘Hit Me Baby One More Time’ In The Record Store
Without a doubt, one of the most amusing moments in Freaky Friday occurs when Chad Michael Murray’s character, Jake, belts out “…Baby One More Time” by Britney Spears at an off-key pitch outside Anna and Tess’s house. His performance is embarrassingly poor, but it’s so funny you can’t help but laugh!

In the movie “Freaky Friday,” after Harper, now in Anna’s body, and Lily, now in Tess’s body, visit Jake’s record store to try winning him over, a Britney Spears song plays in the background. Instead of Jake acting awkwardly as usual, this time it is Harper who tries (but fails) to charm him while impersonating Anna, aiming to cause a rift between her mother and Eric.

Anna’s Little Brother Showed Up To Give A Toast
Growing up, I found great amusement in my character’s bond with her younger brother, Harry, as portrayed in the movie “Freaky Friday“. Therefore, it was a delightful surprise to see Ryan Malgarini reappear in the sequel, now fully grown.
Although he didn’t play a significant role in the film, he attended some events during his sister’s wedding, even giving a speech. This served as a subtle yet heartwarming reminder of their bond, hinted at in the initial movie.

Two Of Pink Slip’s Classic Songs Were Prominently Featured
As a devoted film enthusiast, I must admit that the latest rendition of Freaky Friday wouldn’t have felt quite right without a dash of the iconic Pink Slip. While I applaud their decision to introduce a fresh, heart-wrenching melody, it was undeniably delightful to hear some timeless tunes reminiscent of the original production.
At the culmination of the concert, Anna and her group performed “Take Me Away” with such energy that it left the venue buzzing. Later, during the closing credits, the song “Ultimate,” known for being played during the credits of the movie Freaky Friday, was showcased.
I was dancing in my seat at the theater when both these throwbacks played; I couldn’t help it.

October 3rd Is Not Only Anna’s Wedding Day, But Mean Girls Day
Did you happen to notice when Anna and Eric are getting married? I definitely did, given my love for one of the top movies from the 2000s, “Mean Girls.” You know, just like Lindsay Lohan’s character in “Freaky Friday” got married on the same day that Aaron Samuels asked her character Cady what day it was in the 2004 comedy. What a coincidence!
And it really was that, too. During an interview with Perri Nemiroff, Lohan admitted that the date was a total coincidence, explaining:
It wasn’t apparent to anyone until the day of filming, during the kitchen scene, that it was October 3rd – which happened to be “Mean Girls” day on set, as it was one of the first days of shooting. I exclaimed something along the lines of, “Doesn’t anyone realize today is October 3rd? That’s Mean Girls day!
She continued by explaining that “nothing was done about it,” so she ended up regarding it as an accidental or hidden reference (Easter egg) in the film. Interestingly, the director of the movie, Nisha Ganatra, didn’t intend to include Easter eggs when she discovered this situation; however, by then, avoiding it was no longer an option.
It’s clear that October 3rd holds a special place in Cady’s heart, and it looks like it has become a cherished day for Anna as well. This is fantastic news because it features Lindsay Lohan, the actress who portrays both characters.

Elaine Hendrix, AKA Meredith Blake From The Parent Trap, Made A Cameo
Among the numerous cameos from the movie “Freaky Friday” we’ve previously mentioned, I found one particularly delightful, featuring an actor from the cast of “The Parent Trap”.
Absolutely! Here’s my take:
“Indeed, I found myself reminiscing about Elaine Hendrix’s charming portrayal of the near-villainous stepmother Meredith Blake in ‘The Parent Trap.’ Fast forward to ‘Freaky Friday,’ she reappeared on the silver screen, this time as Blake Kale. In this film, she was a magazine professional, overseeing the photoshoot of Anna’s client, Ella.
Yet, the delightful fun of The Parent Trap doesn’t stop there. At the film’s premier, Hendrix was accompanied by Lisa Ann Walter, the actress who portrayed Chessy in the movie. They even posed for a picture alongside Lohan.
Essentially, it was a memorable reunion of the Parent Trap characters, largely due to the movie Freaky Friday.
Indeed, you’ll notice that Freaky Friday is packed with references to the 2003 original film and some of Lindsay Lohan’s other delightful movies, adding an extra layer of enjoyment. Yet, it’s not just a rehash; this version offers a unique spin on the timeless story, resulting in an entertaining cinema experience.
To get a firsthand experience, you can watch “Freakier Friday” in cinemas currently. If you want to spot similarities, consider streaming “Freaky Friday” with a Disney+ membership instead.
