These 5 Indie Games Released in 2025 Should Be on Everyone’s Must-Play List

The 2025 Game Awards clearly showed that indie games are becoming increasingly important in the gaming world. While indie success isn’t new, it’s definitely growing. We decided to showcase some of the best indie titles released this year. Instead of picking just one winner from the Indie Game Awards nominations, we’ve highlighted five fantastic games that deserve more recognition. These excellently made titles are all worth playing, and are presented here in random order.

1) Nubby’s Number Factory

I recently got really into Nubby’s Number Factory – it’s this awesome little strategy game that came out in March 2025! Basically, you run a factory where you launch this cute, bouncy ball named Nubby onto a pegboard. The goal is to hit pegs to make bigger and bigger numbers, and you need to reach a certain score each round to keep going. There’s a shop where you can buy upgrades to help, plus a perk system to customize your factory. It’s a pretty weird game, visually and in terms of gameplay, but trust me, it’s super addictive and I’ve lost hours just playing it. It’s perfect if you want something fun and easy to pick up!

2) The Beekeeper’s Picnic

Afoot Games’ The Beekeeper’s Picnic is a classic point-and-click adventure game, bringing to mind the beloved titles of the 1990s. Set in the 1920s village of Fulworth, the game follows Helen “Jabbage” Greetham and features a retired Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. When Holmes plans a surprise picnic for Watson, a string of connected mysteries throws a wrench in his plans. To progress, players must solve a variety of puzzles, which offer multiple solutions and ensure each time you play is unique.

3) A Game About Digging a Hole

The game A Game About Digging a Hole lives up to its name – you literally dig a hole. But there’s more to it than just that! Developed by Cyberwave, the game challenges you to dig the biggest hole possible. As you dig, you’ll find ores to sell, letting you buy upgrades like explosives and even a jetpack. Each time you play is different thanks to randomly generated ores, and surprisingly, it only took two weeks to create! Despite its short development time, A Game About Digging a Hole has become a hit, selling over 250,000 copies since its release in February 2025.

4) Rosewater

Released in March 2025, Rosewater is a captivating point-and-click adventure game from Grundislav Games that quickly gained popularity. Players take on the role of Harley Leger, a freelance writer who journeys to the frontier town of Rosewater in an alternate historical setting reminiscent of the Old West. While not a sequel, Rosewater is set in the same universe as the developers’ 2018 game, Lamplight City.

5) Bionic Bay

Developed by Mureena Oy and Psychoflow Studio, Bionic Bay is a 2D platformer that focuses on realistic physics. Players take on the role of a scientist who finds themselves in a bizarre new world after a lab accident. The game features a gorgeous art style, showcasing unique biomechanical landscapes. You’ll be able to slow down time, use telekinesis, and even flip gravity to navigate the levels. Bionic Bay is a visually impressive and well-designed platformer, though its somewhat unsettling atmosphere may not appeal to all players.
