One of the best parts of playing *Hades 2* is that each attempt feels unique. Whether you venture down into Erebus or explore the surface, no two runs are ever quite the same. While this variety keeps the game exciting, it can be challenging to develop a consistent strategy against difficult enemies. That’s where Melinoe’s consistent tools, like Keepsakes and Arcana, become valuable. They let you manage some of the unpredictability of the randomly appearing Boons and shop items, helping you build a reliable approach.
Arcana are a really useful way to improve your character in *Hades 2*. You unlock them using Ashes, and they give you benefits like increased damage, magic power, and health. Experimenting with different combinations will help you find cards that fit how you like to play. But if you want some suggestions for Arcana to always have equipped, I’ve got a few ideas. I’ve tested a lot of combinations and found some Arcana I always equip at the Crossroads, and I think they’ll be helpful for you too. I’ll explain why.
5. XIII – The Centaur

This card gradually restores your health and magic as you travel between locations – every five locations, to be exact. Once you unlock Moondust, you can increase the amount it restores. It provides reliable healing throughout the night without using up valuable resources, and it doesn’t require any Grasp to stay active. As long as you have at least one card with a Grasp cost between 1 and 5, this card will automatically heal you every five locations. This consistent healing can be crucial, and the fact that it’s free makes it particularly useful when building your Arcana deck.
4. II – The Wayward Son

The Wayward Son card gives you a small amount of health back whenever you enter a new area. It’s not a huge heal, but it’s great for topping off your health between major healing opportunities. If you struggle with dodging attacks – and many players do! – this card lets you take an extra hit or two. Best of all, it only costs 1 grasp to add to your Arcana build, making it a valuable and easy addition to any Hades 2 deck. It’s a really solid card for a low cost, so it’s definitely worth keeping around.
3. VII – Persistence

This card gives you a head start with extra health and magic. Starting each run with a little more of both can really help, especially as you earn coins and Boons to improve your character. The bonus grows even further once you collect Moondust, providing a consistent boost to Melinoe’s power. I find it incredibly helpful to have that extra health right from the beginning, before collecting Centaur Hearts, and I now consider this bonus health and magic essential for every run.
2. IX – The Unseen

This card is key to using your most powerful attacks, special abilities, and spells. It constantly replenishes your magic, so you don’t have to wait for rare moments to recharge. I tested the game without this card once, and it was much more difficult – I quickly put it back on! Having your magic regenerate over time is incredibly useful, especially if you’ve chosen upgrades that reduce your overall magic capacity. If you often find yourself with low magic, I highly recommend getting this card as soon as possible. Upgrading it increases the amount of magic restored, ensuring you’re always prepared to cast spells when needed.
1. XII – Death

The Death card often has a negative connotation in Tarot, but it’s incredibly valuable in *Hades 2*. This card gives you ‘Death Defiance,’ essentially a second chance against challenging enemies, starting with the Hecate fight. Upgrading it restores more health and magic, making it even better. I always prioritize getting Death Defiance for tough boss battles, so I consider this card essential. It costs 4 grasp to acquire, which is relatively expensive for Melinoe’s Arcana, but a second life is worth the investment!
