This Ambitious PS5 Horror Game Is Keeping FMVs Alive in 2026

Okay, so if you’re like me and you’re a sucker for classic adventure games – the kind with puzzles and a good story – and you especially love those games that use full-motion video cutscenes, you seriously need to look into Tenebris Somnia. It’s right up our alley!

This survival horror game feels like a throwback to classic titles, blending pixel art adventure with realistic, live-action cutscenes reminiscent of an independent horror movie.

Okay, so the developers, Saibot Studios, have said they were really inspired by classics like Resident Evil and Silent Hill, which is awesome. But they’ve also added a bunch of full-motion video cutscenes – basically, real actors – to move the story forward and give you a totally different way to experience the game. It’s not just gameplay, it’s like watching a movie mixed in, which I think is really cool!

The production is really focusing on quality, using live actors, lots of hands-on effects, and a talented film crew from Argentina.

The live-action footage looks good, but the game definitely has a nostalgic 90s feel – it’s a bit cheesy, but in a fun way. I especially like how the pixelated monsters from the game are brought to life in the full-motion videos.

Not much is known about the story yet, but it seems you’ll be investigating a creepy mansion filled with terrifying monsters and discovering some disturbing truths along the way.

Tenebris Somnia will be available on PS5 on October 16th, 2026 – just in time to enjoy a spooky playthrough over Halloween!
