Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein quickly became a hit on Netflix, reaching the top of the streaming charts. However, a classic movie from the 1990s has now become even more popular with viewers in the U.S. It’s not surprising that a nostalgic favorite is doing well – the film arrived on Netflix just a week after Frankenstein and quickly climbed the charts, surpassing it in popularity within days.
The popular movie everyone’s talking about is The Sandlot, a funny and heartwarming sports comedy from 1993. It follows a group of young baseball players and their summer adventures in 1962. Since becoming available on Netflix earlier this month, it’s become a huge hit with viewers – in fact, by November 19th, it climbed to the No. 6 spot on the U.S. streaming charts, surpassing Frankenstein. As of today, The Sandlot is currently at No. 9, while Frankenstein is at No. 10, according to FlixPatrol.
The Sandlot Is a Perfect Coming-Of-Age Movie
Even years after it first came out, The Sandlot is considered one of the best movies about growing up. It mainly follows Scott “Scotty” Smalls, a new kid in town who feels alone until he makes friends with the local kids. The movie then shows his journey of self-discovery, realistically portraying the power of friendship and the fun and trouble of being a child. Together, the group faces their fears as they try to impress girls and get back a baseball signed by Babe Ruth – a ball that ended up in the yard of a scary dog nicknamed Beast.
Released during a popular era for baseball movies – alongside films like Field of Dreams and A League of Their Own – The Sandlot stands out for its focus on childhood experience rather than the sport itself. The movie beautifully captures the simple joys of long summer days spent playing with friends. Unlike many sports films, The Sandlot doesn’t center around a big game or a clear enemy; instead, it uses the characters’ creativity and sense of adventure to turn everyday moments into something extraordinary.
Everyone loves The Sandlot because it shows a perfect, heartwarming version of childhood, which is why it remains a beloved film for all ages. It’s no surprise the movie is popular on Netflix, even though the streaming numbers haven’t been released.
What’s New on Netflix?
Netflix is adding a lot of great content this November! Along with classics like Frankenstein and The Sandlot, November 1st brought titles like the Back to the Future trilogy and Paddington 2. More movies, including Labyrinth, The Emoji Movie, and Zodiac, will be added throughout the month.
