Birmingham is a city plagued by violent crime, as powerful gangs fiercely compete for control of the drug trade and engage in ongoing conflicts.
Kay S. Ubhi, known for his acting roles in shows like Starstruck and Blue Moon, is now directing his first film: a tough and realistic British crime drama called This is Birmingham. The film, which has already won awards at film festivals, will be available to stream digitally from April 6th. It depicts the brutal reality of gang violence in Birmingham, similar to the popular series Top Boy. For over twenty years, the Kaleo family has controlled much of the city’s criminal activity. But when the family boss, Al Kaleo, is arrested, his ambitious and impulsive son, Asher, takes charge – despite his father’s objections. Meanwhile, a London drug gang, led by Ruvelle, tries to take over Birmingham’s drug trade, sparking a violent struggle for control. Caught in the middle is TJ, a teenage runaway who finds himself in a dangerous situation and must decide whether to escape or become part of this violent world. As the city erupts in conflict, loyalties are tested, and the streets become filled with brutality. This is Birmingham is a hard-hitting and emotional thriller that explores themes of loyalty, survival, and the consequences of violence.
