The ’80s may not be as famed for sitcoms as the ’90s, but they undeniably made a significant impact on this genre. They left viewers in stitches with enduring shows such as Cheers, The Golden Girls, and Full House. Fast forward to now, many of these classic shows have found their homes on streaming platforms, making them more accessible than ever. In fact, one of the best ’80s sitcoms is available for free streaming, allowing fans to save a few dollars during these increasing subscription costs.

You can enjoy all four seasons of the classic NBC sitcom, ALF, on Amazon’s Prime Video. Originally airing for four seasons from 1986 to 1990, this beloved series includes 97 episodes (100 in syndication). It wasn’t just a hit sitcom of the ’80s, but one of the best sitcoms ever made. With its lasting impact, fans continue to rewatch it frequently. ALF, a smart-talking alien character, was created by Tom Patchett and Paul Fusco. The series revolves around Gordon “ALF” Shumway, an extraterrestrial who crash-lands in the garage of a typical suburban California family. Since his spaceship is beyond repair and he can’t return to Melmac, his home planet, the Tanner family – Willie Tanner (Max Wright), his wife Kate (Anne Schedeen), their daughter Lynn (Andrea Elson), and son Brian (Benji Gregory) – welcome him into their household. The ensuing events offer a humorous and endearing portrayal of human life from an alien perspective.

The hilarious and imaginative series, ALF, featuring a puppet portrayed by Fusco in the lead role, was adored by many back then and continues to be a beloved ’80s sitcom cult classic. With a 80% audience approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, this show gave birth to several spin-offs such as NBC’s ALF: The Animated Series, which aired from 1987 to 1988, the half-hour Saturday morning program ALF Tales, and TV Land’s ALF’s Hit Talk Show. Additionally, it led to the 1996 film Project: ALF.
