This Star Passes Scarlett Johansson as Highest-Grossing Actor Ever

Scarlett Johansson’s previous box office record has been left in the fire (and ash).

Scarlett Johansson, formerly the highest-grossing actor ever, has now been surpassed by Zoe Saldaña. This is due to the success of the Avatar trilogy directed by James Cameron.

The newest Avatar movie has now earned $1.23 billion worldwide, as of January 12th, and was recognized with a Golden Globes nomination for its cinematic and box office success. According to Screen Rant, this brings the total box office earnings for all films starring Zoe to an impressive $16.8 billion. Her other hit movies include Star Trek, Avengers: Endgame, and Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.

Scarlett Johansson used to be number one with $16.4 billion in earnings. The rest of the top five highest-earning stars are her Marvel co-stars: Samuel L. Jackson, Robert Downey Jr., and Chris Pratt.

Although Avatar: Fire and Ash didn’t win the Golden Globe—Sinners, directed by Michael B. Jordan and Ryan Coogler, took home the award at the January 11th ceremony hosted by Nikki Glaser—Zoe Saldaña was a winner last year. She won the prize for Best Supporting Actress and used her acceptance speech to thank her Emilia Pérez co-stars Selena Gomez and Karla Sofía Gascón, as well as the other women she collaborated with on the film.

Oh my gosh, I was practically melting when Zoe took the stage! She was so sweet, saying it was a first for her and how incredibly grateful she was to be up there with Selena, Karla, and the amazing Jacques Audiard – seriously, that director is a genius! But the best part? She talked about how much she admired the other nominees, saying she was just in awe of their strength, how complicated and real they were, and just… their talent! I felt like she was speaking my thoughts exactly! It was the most beautiful acceptance speech ever.

Actress Zoe Saldaña, who is known for her role in Guardians of the Galaxy, recently shared her thoughts on a competitive environment. As a mother of three children – 11-year-old twins Cy and Bowie, and 9-year-old Zen – with her husband Marco Perego, she noted how supportive everyone has been. She said, “Despite it being a competition, I’ve only seen people lifting each other up and celebrating each other’s successes, which is really wonderful.”

Zoe also addressed her fellow nominees, such as Ariana Grande and Margaret Qualley.

She went on to say, “You’re all incredibly talented.” She explained that she felt a special kind of creative energy while working on the film Emilia Pérez, and credited the cast and crew, thanking them profusely and specifically mentioning director Jacques Audiard.
