ARIKA, a game development company based in Tokyo, was started by Akira Nishitani, a famous creator from Capcom. He’s known for his work on classic 90s arcade games such as Final Fight and Street Fighter 2.
He developed the Street Fighter EX series—three games that offered a unique 3D take on Capcom’s classic 2D fighting games, though they didn’t receive the recognition they deserved.
Modern fighting game players often miss out on these older titles, but we’ve always liked how they play, even if they aren’t perfect. We especially remember enjoying Street Fighter EX3, which came out when the PlayStation 2 first launched.

Fighting EX Layer, which came out on PlayStation 4 in 2018, is a new fighting game inspired by both the original Fighting Layer from 1998 and the Street Fighter EX series. It includes some characters that appeared in those earlier games.
Right now, you can get it for just $0.99 or £0.79 on the PlayStation Store – the lowest price ever! This special offer is part of ARIKA’s 30th-anniversary celebration.
Here’s what the dev wrote on social media:
Founded in 1995, we’ve been dedicated to the joy of gaming and have created many titles over the years. We’re incredibly grateful to our players, the talented developers who’ve worked with us, our publishing and partner companies, and all the fans who have supported us along the way.
Despite having complex gameplay elements, this is likely Arika’s easiest fighting game to pick up, thanks to features like automatic combos and simpler controls.
We didn’t review this game when it first came out, but we’ve been enjoying it for years. Now that it’s available at a great price, we definitely recommend checking it out!
