Thor vs Doom and Three Other Fights We Know Are in Avengers: Doomsday (And Who We Think Wins)

The excitement for Avengers: Doomsday is higher than it’s been for a Marvel movie since Avengers: Endgame. The film reunites directors Joe and Anthony Russo with a huge cast, and delivers the team-up fans have been dreaming of for years. It brings together the Avengers, the heroes of Wakanda, the Fantastic Four, and even the original X-Men – with Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, and James Marsden returning to their roles. Plus, Robert Downey Jr. is back, this time as the villain Doctor Doom! Those who saw the trailer at CinemaCon say it proves the film will bring the Multiversal Saga to an epic conclusion.

Marvel stories, whether in comic books or movies, consistently show heroes battling each other before they team up to face a larger danger. We’ve seen this in films like The Avengers and Captain America: Civil War, and Avengers: Doomsday will continue that trend. Early details about the plot suggest some thrilling conflicts are on the way.

4) Nightcrawler vs Reed Richards

While discussing the upcoming film Avengers: Doomsday, Alan Cumming revealed he’d be hitting Pedro Pascal in a fight scene, strongly suggesting a battle between his character, Nightcrawler, and Pascal’s Mister Fantastic. Cumming later joked about “breaking” Pascal on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Although Reed Richards (Mister Fantastic) is incredibly intelligent and can stretch his body in amazing ways, he’s primarily a scientist, not a fighter. Nightcrawler, on the other hand, is a natural combatant who’s used to fighting against the odds. Plus, his ability to teleport gives him a significant advantage, allowing him to quickly escape and reposition himself if needed. For these reasons, we predict Nightcrawler will win the fight.

3) Mystique vs Yelena

A recent trailer for an upcoming movie showed the character Mystique (played by Rebecca Romijn) shapeshifting into Yelena Belova, hinting at a fight between two versions of Florence Pugh. Mystique, known from the X-Men films, is a highly skilled and unpredictable fighter, able to take on multiple opponents at once. Yelena Belova, from Black Widow and Thunderbolts , is also an incredibly talented hand-to-hand combatant, trained by the Red Room. However, Mystique’s ability to change her appearance and move in unnatural ways would create a significant challenge for any fighter, even one as skilled as Yelena. This unique disruption suggests Mystique would likely win in a fight.

2) Shang-Chi vs Gambit

The CinemaCon trailer showed a fight between Shang-Chi (Simu Liu) and Gambit (Channing Tatum) that looks incredibly exciting. Gambit can turn anything into a powerful explosive and fights with fast, unpredictable movements using his staff. Shang-Chi, however, is the MCU’s best close-combat fighter, skilled in all kinds of martial arts. He now also wields the Ten Rings, ancient weapons that are difficult to defend against. While Gambit’s explosive attacks are strong, Shang-Chi is too agile and the Ten Rings can block or redirect attacks from a distance. This suggests Shang-Chi would win the fight quickly, before Gambit could even launch a second attack.

1) Thor vs Doctor Doom

The trailer for Avengers: Doomsday shows a striking scene where Doctor Doom effortlessly stops Thor’s powerful axe, Stormbreaker, with just his bare hands. Given Thor’s immense strength in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this confrontation immediately raises the stakes for the upcoming movie. Directors the Russo brothers have previously highlighted Doom as a villain who’s always one step ahead, suggesting Thor won’t win this fight. Doomsday needs to clearly demonstrate how dangerous Doom is, and having him defeat the God of Thunder in a direct battle is a powerful way to do so.

Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to be released in theaters on December 18th.
