Tim Burton has secured a leading actor for his updated version of the 1958 science fiction horror film, “Attack of the 50 Foot Woman“.
As reported by Jeff Sneider from his newsletter The InSneider, it’s been announced that Margot Robbie is set to take on the leading role in “Attack of the 50 Foot Woman” for Warner Bros. Additionally, she will serve as the film’s producer under her production company, LuckyChap.
What is Attack of the 50 Foot Woman about?
In the original “Attack of the 50 Foot Woman,” I found myself stepping into the shoes of Nancy Fowler Archer, a rich heiress who experiences an extraordinary transformation into a colossal being following an alien encounter. Nathan Hertz skillfully guided this project as the director, working from a screenplay penned by Mark Hanna. Over time, it grew to be a beloved cult classic in cinema history.
In February 2024, Deadline announced that director Tim Burton was set to revamp “Attack of the 50 Foot Woman.” Gillian Flynn, renowned for her work on “Gone Girl,” initially agreed to write the script. However, due to other obligations, Flynn is no longer able to pen the next draft, and the project is now searching for a new screenwriter.
In collaboration with Burton, Andrew Mittman from Wednesday, and Tommy Harper, Robbie and LuckyChap will join forces in the production process. Kai Dolbashian takes on the role of executive producer for this project.
Ever since Barbie, the blockbuster film of 2023, I’ve been in awe that Robbie hasn’t taken on a leading role yet. Playing the iconic character based on the Mattel doll was truly an extraordinary experience for her. Barbie was not just a financial success but also a critical darling, earning eight Academy Award nominations and even snatching one for Best Original Song.
In the upcoming months, you’ll find multiple films where Robbie has been the main actor. Starting on September 19, 2025, one of these movies, titled “A Big Bold Beautiful Journey,” directed by Kogonada, will be screened in cinemas alongside Colin Farrell.
Robbie plays both the lead role and produces the film titled “Wuthering Heights,” a Gothic-psychological drama adapted from Emily Brontë’s 1847 novel. The movie was penned by Oscar-winning writer-director, Emerald Fennell. Joining Robbie on screen are Jacob Elordi, Owen Cooper, Shazad Latif, Hong Chau, and Alison Oliver. “Wuthering Heights” is set to premiere in theaters on February 13, 2026.
