Don Cheadle is famous for playing James Rhodes in the Marvel movies, including the recent series Secret Invasion, but he’s also had a fantastic career on television. He’s appeared in many TV shows, from ‘90s hits like The Golden Palace and Picket Fences to more recent series such as Showtime’s Black Monday and the short-lived but excellent Don’t Look Deeper. All five seasons of House of Lies will be removed from Netflix on January 23rd. This 28-episode series, which originally aired on Showtime from 2012 to 2016, is based on Martin Kihn’s book of the same name. The show centers around a team of ambitious management consultants who will do anything to close a deal. Despite the simple premise, House of Lies is a very funny and often outrageous comedy, and many consider it one of Don Cheadle’s strongest performances.
Cheadle is Brilliant As a Manipulative and Charming Businessman in House of Lies
I’m a big fan of House of Lies, and Don Cheadle is fantastic as Marty Kaan. He plays this super-successful consultant who decides to branch out and start his own firm, Kaan & Associates. What’s fascinating is that while they seem to be helping these huge companies, the team is really just focused on making a ton of money for themselves – we’re talking seven-figure salaries! And they’ll go to any lengths to get it, even resorting to things like blackmail or manufacturing problems just to close a deal. The show also has a great supporting cast, including Kristen Bell, Ben Schwartz, Josh Lawson, and several other really talented actors like Don Olivieri, Donis Leonard Jr., and Glynn Turman.
Although the entire cast of House of Lies is strong, Don Cheadle truly stands out. He’s a talented comedic actor, but his performance in this show is exceptional, seamlessly mixing humor with the sophisticated, persuasive style of his character, Marty Kaan. The show’s unique format further highlights Cheadle’s skills, as his character often directly addresses the audience, pausing scenes to explain concepts or reveal his strategies. This creates a surprisingly personal viewing experience and adds a fascinating dimension to Cheadle’s performance. Despite receiving mixed reviews initially, the series is definitely worth watching, especially with it leaving Netflix soon – now is the perfect time to check it out.
