Tina Knowles Reveals Where Beyoncé’s Sister Solange Was Conceived

Solange Knowles’ latest hair transformation was a full circle moment for Tina Knowles.

Soon after the Grammy-winning singer revealed her shaved head on Instagram, her mother jokingly noted the location where she was conceived seemed to inspire the look.

Tina shared on Instagram that her daughter’s new buzz cut reminded her of an Egyptian goddess. She explained this was fitting because her daughter was conceived on a cruise along the Nile River in Egypt.

Tina, the mother of Solange, 39, and Beyoncé, 44 (both with her ex-husband, Mathew Knowles), continued to compliment her younger daughter’s self-assurance, saying she always believed Solange could pull off any look, even something unconventional – like shaving her head or wearing a garbage bag – and still look beautiful.

“Well ‘Viola’! !!! You turn everything into Art,” she added. “I love your boldness!”

Solange responded to the post with a heartfelt message, calling her mother her “divine north star” and thanking her for everything.

I’ve always known Tina was the rock of the Knowles family, even way back before Beyoncé and Solange became superstars. She’s been an incredible force for both of her daughters, celebrating their triumphs and helping them through some really tough times – things like heartbreaking losses, relationship struggles, and everything in between. She’s just always been there for them, a truly devoted mom.

The girls have supported their mom through challenging times, especially during her battle with breast cancer and the difficulties in her relationship with their father, which ultimately led to their divorce in 2011.

It’s not surprising the three are so close. Solange has often spoken about how their mother taught them to be independent.

In a 2017 interview with Beyoncé for Interview Magazine, the Bring It On: All or Nothing actress shared that her mother always emphasized self-control – over one’s voice, body, and work – and led by example.

Solange explained that her older sister guided her, particularly when it came to navigating their careers in the entertainment world.

She told Beyoncé that she’s learned a lot about taking control of her own story. She believes it should be a given right, not something anyone needs to ask for. She feels she’s finally reaching a point where she can confidently stand up for herself and say ‘no’ to things she’s not comfortable with, without feeling guilty or burdened.

She added that she really admires how her and her mother both confidently talk about their accomplishments and celebrate their successes without being shy or embarrassed.

Ultimately, Solange said Beyoncé was the best of the best—and she couldn’t have asked for better.

“You did a kickass job,” she said. “You were the most patient, loving, wonderful sister ever.”
