Dragon Ball Super Exec Teases How Much Has Changed For New Remake

Fans can look forward to the return of the Dragon Ball franchise this year with a fresh remake of the 2013 movie, Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods. This new version, titled Dragon Ball Super: Beerus, will premiere in October as part of the Fall 2026 anime season. The franchise is celebrating 40 years and is making a big comeback with both the remake and a continuation of the anime series, Dragon Ball Super: Galactic Patrol. The remake was first announced at the Genki Dama Matsuri, a special event honoring the manga’s 40th anniversary. More updates, including a trailer for the film, were revealed during the Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour as part of the ongoing 40th anniversary celebration.

The latest trailer revealed plans for a remake of the Frieza saga, offering fans a first look at the revived villain. Though not yet officially announced by the anime itself, Masako Nozawa, the voice of Goku, has confirmed that the intense battle between Goku and Frieza from Dragon Ball Super will be recreated in this new film. During a recent presentation, Executive Producer Akio Iyoku discussed the updates and changes being made for the remake.

Dragon Ball Exec Confirms The Major Changes in The Remake Film

Iyoku explains that the goal of this new edition is to more faithfully and accurately represent the world of Dragon Ball Super, as envisioned by creator Akira Toriyama. He notes that even in the ten years since 2015, animation techniques have improved, and the production team wanted to incorporate those advancements into this version.

I noticed they really went all out with this project. They didn’t just make small changes – they added a lot of new scenes, significantly improved the visuals, completely re-did all the existing scenes, and essentially rebuilt the entire story from the ground up.

I’m so hyped for this remake! Even though it tells the same story as the original, the trailer shows it’s a totally fresh take. The animation is incredible – a huge step up – and the fight scenes look absolutely amazing. They’re really rebuilding everything from the ground up – visuals, sound, the whole composition. Plus, they’ve added a bunch of new scenes and completely re-shot everything, so it feels brand new! I can’t wait to see it.

The movie will closely follow Akira Toriyama’s initial ideas, as he was directly involved in its concept and development. Similar to how he approached Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’, this film might use the same method of adaptation.

What Happens in Dragon Ball Super: Beerus?

The story centers around Beerus, a tremendously powerful God of Destruction, who is on the hunt for the legendary Super Saiyan God, eventually finding Goku. But Goku isn’t what Beerus expected, leaving him to question if his search was worthwhile. After sleeping for decades, Beerus is awakened by a dream, hoping to find a challenging opponent, only to discover Goku isn’t as strong as he’d hoped.

Following a period of intense turmoil, the powerful Beerus puts the planet in danger, forcing the Z Fighters to do everything they can to defeat him. Meanwhile, Goku and the other Saiyans discover a secret, legendary transformation granted by Shenron, but it can only be achieved under very specific circumstances.
