This week, on February 26th, two classic arcade shooters from the 1980s by Toaplan are coming to PlayStation 4. However, there’s something important to know about this M2 collection before you buy.
The core collection features arcade versions of Tiger-Heli (1985) and its famous sequel, Twin Cobra (1988). Both games have been updated with improvements for modern players, including customizable on-screen displays and a very easy difficulty setting.
Everyone who owns the main game will also be able to download puzzler Teki-Paki for free.
Similar to how they handled Operation Night Strikers on the Switch, the developer is charging players extra to get these games on consoles.
To play the original NES version of Tiger-Heli, and the versions of Twin Cobra made for PC Engine, Genesis, and NES, you’ll have to purchase them separately.
The downloadable content surprisingly includes the arcade game Guardian (also known as Get Star) from 1986.
The cost of the main game and its expansion hasn’t been announced yet, and that could be a deciding factor for many, depending on how much M2 decides to charge.
There are essentially two ways to see this: if you only want the original arcade games and aren’t interested in the console versions, the developer is saving you money. But if you want everything, you’re paying a premium.
Either way, it’s good to have these classics preserved on modern hardware.
