The beloved Harry Potter films are back in the spotlight, and the original cast members are sharing their memories of the hugely successful movie series.
The Harry Potter movies were released over ten years, from 2001 to 2011, and a total of eight films were made. Together, they earned $7.7 billion in theaters worldwide. The films starred Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter, Emma Watson as Hermione Granger, Rupert Grint as Ron Weasley, Tom Felton as Draco Malfoy, and the beloved Alan Rickman as Professor Snape, along with a large ensemble cast.
Tom Felton, known for playing Draco Malfoy in the popular Harry Potter films, recently discussed his experiences on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. With a new Harry Potter series coming to HBO, Felton reminisced about his time with the franchise. Surprisingly, when asked which of the eight films was his favorite, he admitted to only having watched each movie once. Despite this, he now looks back on his role and the films with fondness.
I have to be honest, I always loved the second film, Chamber of Secrets. It was just so much fun! A giant snake – a basilisk! – and Alan Rickman was absolutely brilliant. Plus, we as an audience had started to really get to know the characters by then, which made it even better.
The sixth project was the most fulfilling role I’ve played. I truly wouldn’t be where I am today without the acting training I received and everything I learned about the craft.
Released in 2002, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets features Tom Felton as Draco Malfoy, a key rival character who initially appears to be connected to the mysterious attacks at Hogwarts. In the film, Draco becomes a Seeker on the Slytherin Quidditch team, following in his father’s footsteps. A memorable scene involves Hermione using Polyjuice Potion to disguise Harry and Ron as Draco’s friends, Crabbe and Goyle.
The sixth Harry Potter film, The Half-Blood Prince, focuses on Draco Malfoy’s difficult internal battle. He’s pressured into becoming a Death Eater and tasked with killing Albus Dumbledore by Lord Voldemort. Draco struggles with the horrible things he’s forced to do, all to protect his family. Ultimately, he fails to kill Dumbledore, and Severus Snape steps in to complete the task.
Tom Felton continues to be known for his portrayal of Draco Malfoy and will return to the role on Broadway in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. He also shared that he reached out to the new actor playing Draco in HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter series, offering support and advice.
HBO’s Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone will be available to watch on December 25.
