Tom Holland has revealed who he thinks should take over the role of Spider-Man after he stops playing the character.
The actor, known for playing Spider-Man since 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, will return to the big screen this summer in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
In a recent interview with Esquire, Tom Holland suggested young actor Owen Cooper, known for his role in ‘Adolescence,’ would be a great choice to play Spider-Man after him. He described Cooper as “awesome” for the part.
“Obviously, he’s super-talented and he’s the talk of the town right now,” Holland said.
He expressed interest in staying connected with the series after his current role finishes, ideally as a producer. However, he acknowledged that earning a producer credit for upcoming films would be difficult.
Just as Robert Downey Jr. guided me when I started out with my first three films, I hope to do the same for the next actor taking on the role.

Last year, Cooper quickly became famous for his role in the popular Netflix series Adolescence. He played Jamie Miller, a 13-year-old boy who gets arrested after a girl from his school is murdered.
This role was his very first time acting on screen, and it earned him an Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actor in a limited series or movie. He also made history by becoming the youngest male to ever win this award.
I’ve been so impressed watching Cooper’s career blossom! After that initial role, they’ve been in some fantastic projects – I especially loved their work in Emerald Fennell’s take on Wuthering Heights, and they were brilliant on the BBC’s Film Club too.
Cooper had previously said he’d be interested in the job eventually, mentioning in an interview with Variety last year that he wouldn’t want to take it over for another 10 to 15 years.
He added: “But that’s only when Tom Holland backs off.”

Okay, so I just got a sneak peek at what’s coming with the next Spider-Man movie, and it’s looking really interesting. It’s called ‘Brand New Day,’ and it picks up after everything that happened in ‘No Way Home.’ Basically, we’re going to see Peter Parker really grappling with who he is now, trying to figure things out after all that craziness. It’s hitting theaters in July, and I’m already curious to see how this new chapter unfolds.
Tom Holland hinted at the upcoming Spider-Man movie during a virtual appearance at CinemaCon, describing it as the most emotionally resonant and mature installment yet, according to Deadline.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into cinemas on 31 July 2026.
