Even though this video was created by a fan and there are no plans for Spider-Man from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Superman from the DC Universe to team up, it was still enjoyable to see them imagined together. It got fans excited and wondering what a real team-up might look like on the big screen.

This April, Marvel Comics will release Superman/Spider-Man #1, a special issue featuring multiple short stories about team-ups between the iconic heroes from Marvel and DC universes.

The main storyline will be created by bestselling author Brad Meltzer (known for his work with the New York Times) and artist Pepe Larraz. It will feature a team-up between Spider-Man and Superman as they face off against their most iconic enemies: Norman Osborn (Spider-Man’s greatest villain) and Lex Luthor.

There are tons of these unexpected pairings and battles, and honestly, it’s a dream come true!

To promote the team-up, Marvel revealed a special cover for the Spider-Man/Superman crossover. It’s the first time the logos of both heroes have appeared together on a single cover.

Tom Holland will reprise his role as Spider-Man on July 31st in the upcoming film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, where he’ll face more grounded villains and join forces with the Punisher. Separately, David Corenswet is preparing to begin filming the Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow, which is scheduled to be released on July 9, 2027.

Will a Spider-Man and Superman Live-Action Crossover Ever Happen?

It’s still uncertain if we’ll ever see a live-action team-up between Superman and Spider-Man, or any heroes from Marvel and DC, due to the many challenges involved. For now, fan-made artwork might be the closest we get to seeing Tom Holland’s and David Corenswet’s versions of these characters together, and while that’s disappointing, it’s not entirely surprising.

Even though a crossover between Marvel and DC is likely a long way off, fans still have reason to be optimistic.

James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios, revealed in June 2025 that he and others had previously talked about the possibility of a movie combining characters from Marvel and DC. He said he’s still interested, but only if they can come up with a compelling story that makes it worthwhile for audiences.

People want compelling, well-told stories about superheroes, and they’re looking for more diverse narratives. It’s clear that audiences love these characters, but simply pairing popular heroes like Spider-Man and Superman isn’t enough if the story itself isn’t good. Creating truly engaging superhero content is challenging and requires genuine creativity.

James Gunn’s previous statements suggest a potential crossover between Marvel and DC, but most people believe it’s unlikely to happen anytime soon. Both studios have plenty of stories planned for their own universes, making a collaboration a distant possibility.

Many believe a Marvel-DC crossover might begin as an animated project. This would allow creators to see if the story works well before considering a live-action version. A successful animated crossover would significantly increase the likelihood of a live-action event happening.
