With the recent success of the Tomb Raider games, the Netflix series Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft is a great way to build excitement for the upcoming Tomb Raider show on Amazon Prime Video. Tomb Raider has been enjoying a resurgence in popularity thanks to the game reboot and these two TV adaptations.
I’ve been a fan of Tomb Raider for ages – it really paved the way for so many action and survival games like Uncharted. But honestly, the movies haven’t always been great. I was so happy to see the recent animated series on Netflix was a big improvement, and I’m really hopeful the new live-action show coming to Prime will be even better! It feels like they’re finally getting it right.
What Is Tomb Raider: The Legend Of Lara Croft About?
The animated series Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft debuted on Netflix in October 2024, and its final season became available in December 2025. Hayley Atwell stars as the voice of Lara Croft, joined by Allen Maldonado, Earl Baylon, Karen Fukuhara, and O-T Fagbenle in supporting voice roles.
The story starts with Lara Croft in Peru, preparing to sell her family’s estate when the antagonist, Charles Devereaux (played by Richard Armitage), steals a precious artifact. The second season introduces a new enemy, Mila, voiced by Tricia Helfer, who is determined to reshape the world according to her own plans.

Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft takes place in the same world as the recent Tomb Raider games, starting with the 2013 reboot. This reboot launched what fans call the “Survivor Trilogy,” which also includes Rise of the Tomb Raider (2015) and Shadow of the Tomb Raider (2018).
This animated series follows the events of the Survivor Trilogy, which tells the story of Lara Croft’s early adventures – essentially, what happened before the original Tomb Raider games. The show picks up after the trilogy concludes and fills in the gap between the end of Shadow of the Tomb Raider and the beginning of the rest of the series, explaining how Lara Croft became the adventurer we know.
Prime Video’s Tomb Raider Will Be Different From Previous Adaptations
Just when you thought you’d seen the last of Lara Croft on screen, there’s more to come! A live-action Tomb Raider TV series is heading to Amazon Prime Video. Production is set to begin in January 2026, though a release date hasn’t been announced yet.
Sophie Turner will play Lara Croft in the upcoming series, which will be led by showrunners Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Chad Hodge. Unlike past iterations like Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, this new series won’t follow a specific existing storyline. Instead, it aims to create a fresh, unified narrative by drawing from the movies, TV shows, and games (according to IGN).
