Tonight’s WWE NXT: 4 Hits & 3 Misses (July 22)

Tonight’s episode of WWE NXT featured a powerful presence by The Undertaker, but there was more than just that to look forward to. The show also tackled the consequences of Great American Bash, TNA Slammiversary, and Evolution 2 in an engaging manner. If you haven’t kept up with tonight’s NXT, don’t fret! We’re diving into the key highlights of the night in our new regular segment Hits and Misses. From impressive winning streaks to overdue attention, unfortunate falls from grace, or unexpected guest appearances, we’ve got you covered. So let’s dive into one of the initial impactful scenes of the show!

Miss: Booker T

Tonight’s NXT kicked off with an electrifying start, much like only NXT does, thanks to Booker T’s energetic presence. He helped pump up the crowd for the return of The Undertaker and various matches on the schedule, but there was a mix-up when he introduced Blake Monroe in the ring – he referred to the wrong Monroe by mistake.

Hello, I’m Monica Monroe, currently residing rent-free within the thoughts of Booker T. Sending warm regards to my fellow Monroe sibling, Blake! #WWENXT

Greetings, this is Monica Monroe speaking. At the moment, I’m a free rider in Booker T’s mind. Wishing love to my sister Blake Monroe! #WWENXT

— Lady Bird, Monica Monroe (@wrestleladybird) July 23, 2025

In an alternate phrasing: Instead of Blake Monroe, Booker T referred to Monica Monroe in his discourse, a name well-recognized among fans of his Reality of Wrestling (ROW) promotion, where she is one half of the ROW Women’s Tag Team Champions alongside Gigi Rey. Monica herself acknowledged this name change on social media while also giving a shoutout to Blake. When Booker T returned to the commentary table, the team mercilessly teased him about his slip-up.

Hit: Jasper Troy

During its second season, LFG is swiftly becoming a significant platform for nurturing rising talents. For instance, Jasper Troy, who’s been on a roll since joining NXT following his contract win, shows no signs of slowing down. He not only held his ground against the current NXT Champion Oba Femi, but he’s also squaring off with one of NXT’s latest recruits, Ricky Saints. Troy’s performance against Saints was nothing short of impressive, displaying his strength and bravery with a powerful finale to secure the victory.

Miss: Ricky Saints

On the opposite side of this equation lies Saints, who possesses an uncanny knack for making his opponents shine brightly in the ring. He showcased this talent abundantly during his bout against Troy, and it’s a skill he demonstrated twice against Page as well. However, despite these impressive performances, Saints has unfortunately lost every time. This contrasts sharply with his successful streak following his arrival at NXT, which even included a Title win, but that success was brief as well. Here’s to hoping that things start going Saints’ way and he secures some crucial victories in the near future.

Hit: Undertaker and Trick Williams

Initially, their interaction seemed divided, with Williams excelling during my successes and the Undertaker shining during my failures. However, upon reconsideration and taking into account how seamlessly they complemented each other, I now consider the entire exchange as a success. If you still doubt that Williams can stand his ground against any opponent, this interaction should serve as a convincing proof. Williams appeared flawless in this encounter, fitting in perfectly alongside one of WWE’s legendary figures. Credit is due to the Undertaker too, for their banter on the mic felt organic and genuine. The Undertaker delivered some clever jabs that only enhance Williams’ current villainous character, while Williams responded with a sell for a choke slam that could very well become a popular meme.

Hit: Jordynne Grace and Blake Monroe

Discussing the development of villain storylines, let’s talk about Blake Monroe, who recently made her wrestling debut in NXT after joining WWE. Her introduction into the WWE has been unique compared to others, but things took an interesting turn at the Great American Bash for both Monroe and Jordynne Grace. Tonight, those changes were solidified, hinting at greater and more exciting things for both superstars. Monroe secured a victory against Wren Sinclair, but it was Grace’s erratic behavior and her clash with Monroe’s wickedly charming persona that truly made this segment stand out. Monroe appears to have found her comfort zone as a villain, while Grace has gained an edge that feels essential. Both performers excelled in this encounter, and there seems to be potential for a highly captivating rivalry in the future.

Hit: Ethan Page

Ethan Page made an appearance to showcase his NXT North American Championship, but it turned out his intentions were more complex than we initially thought. While he certainly showcased his skills and championship title, he then transformed into full-on mischief mode, announcing that he was transforming the NXT North American Championship into the NXT Canadian Championship, complete with a new Title design and Canadian flags. This part of the show was fantastic and demonstrated how brilliant Page is when speaking in public, but it also sparked an unforeseen challenge from none other than TNA’s Santino Marella. Although TNA has received the short end of the stick when it comes to title wins so far, there might be a chance for Santino to win in the near future to even things out a bit.

Miss: Oba Femi’s Title Challengers

To clarify, I’d like to point out that Oba Femi is far from a mediocre fighter. On the contrary, he consistently delivers exceptional performances regardless of his opponents in the ring. He embodies all the qualities you’d expect from a champion. However, his skills seem almost too proficient, as only Jasper Troy appeared to provide a genuine challenge for Femi, and even then, it was unlikely that Jasper would claim the Title so early in his NXT career.

In the recent match, Yoshiki Inamura and Josh Briggs put on a fantastic show, but Femi’s title reign remained unchallenged throughout. There’s been hints that Trick Williams might face him again in the future, however, this potential rematch doesn’t seem particularly exciting, considering their past encounters. Currently, there aren’t many contenders who can potentially threaten Femi’s title, and without introducing a new opponent quickly, it seems we may have to wait for NXT to develop someone capable of posing a real challenge to the Champion.
