The Pokemon Trading Card Game is still incredibly popular, even three decades after it began, and continues to gain new players. Despite difficulties finding new card sets due to shortages and resellers, many fans are dedicated to building their collections. 2026 has already brought several exciting new sets, with more planned for release. Now that the first three months of the year are over, we can see which of these new sets have been the most sought-after so far.
TCG Player, a major online marketplace for trading cards, recently published a report summarizing trends from the first quarter of 2026. While TCG Player sells cards from many different games, the report clearly shows that Pokemon TCG is still the most popular trading card game by a significant margin. One Piece and Magic: The Gathering are also popular, but Pokemon continues to dominate. As a Pokemon enthusiast, I was particularly interested in seeing which Pokemon cards are selling the best on TCG Player this year.
5) Boss’s Orders – Ghetsis (Mega Evolution)

The Pokémon Trading Card Game card, Boss’s Orders, featuring Ghetsis, first appeared in the Scarlet & Violet expansion and has consistently been a player favorite due to its straightforward yet effective ability. While a new full art or secret rare version hasn’t been released for this Ghetsis card in the current series – that distinction went to the Corbeau version in the Legends: Z-A set – it remains highly sought after. As of early 2026, it’s the 5th most purchased card on the TCGplayer marketplace.
The Ghetsis card, known as Boss’s Orders, is surprisingly affordable compared to other powerful cards released this year. The standard version of the card is perfectly playable and popular with players. You can find it for as little as 28 cents, and even a perfectly graded PSA 10 version costs only about $30. As an Uncommon card from the Mega Evolution set, it’s also relatively easy to find in booster packs if you can still find them.
4) Dawn (Phantasmal Flames)

This Trainer card, featuring the character Dawn from Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, first appeared in the Mega Evolution – Phantasmal Flames expansion. The set includes a standard version of the card, as well as beautifully illustrated Ultra Rare and Special Illustration Rare versions. It’s a very helpful card, allowing you to search your deck for up to three Basic, Stage 1, and Stage 2 Pokemon and add them to your hand. The standard version is a great card to use in play, and the full art versions look amazing. This popularity has made it the second most sought-after card among Pokemon TCG players.
Dawn is a popular card that’s still reasonably priced, whether you want it for playing the game or collecting. The standard version costs around $1 without grading. Even the rarer, special illustrated version is only about $30 ungraded, or $110 if professionally graded by PSA. This makes Dawn a great option for adding to your playing deck or your complete Pokemon Diamond and Pearl full art card collection.
3) Poke Pad (Ascended Heroes)

I’ve been keeping an eye on the Pokémon TCG, and the Poke Pad card is seriously taking off! It first showed up in the Ascended Heroes set, and honestly, I wasn’t shocked to see it ranked as one of the most popular cards on TCG Player for the first three months of the year. It even made a comeback in the Perfect Order set with a really cool full-art Ultra Rare version. Both versions aren’t too expensive, but the Ascended Heroes one has been around for a while now, longer than the Perfect Order version that just dropped in late March.
The standard version of Ascended Heroes is readily available and not expensive. However, because it’s been difficult to find in stores, many players are buying it on TCGplayer. You can find ungraded copies for a little over $1.30, while a professionally graded PSA 10 version costs around $35. The original card was recently reprinted in Perfect Order, along with a new artwork version, meaning it should stay common and affordable for resale.
2) Lillie’s Determination (Mega Evolution)

According to TCGplayer, the most popular Pokemon card of 2026 is currently Lillie’s Determination. This supporter card first appeared in the Mega Evolution set in September 2025, and like the card featuring Dawn, it was released in three different versions: a standard card, a full art Ultra Rare, and a Special Illustration Rare. It allows players to discard their hand and draw a new one, and features a beloved character from Pokemon Sun and Moon. These factors have made it the most sought-after new Pokemon card of 2026 so far.
Lillie’s Determination is a bit more expensive than some other cards, though its basic version is only slightly pricier. You can find the common version for around $1.50. However, the rarer, special illustrated version can sell for up to $65, and a perfectly graded one (PSA 10) can even reach $200. This makes Lillie’s Determination appealing to both collectors looking for valuable cards and players who want a useful card in their deck, depending on the specific version.
1) Mega Gengar ex (Phantasmal Flames)

I’m really excited to see Mega Gengar back in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and it’s been a highlight of the Mega Evolution set! It even showed up recently in the Ascended Heroes expansion as both a Special Illustration Rare and a Mega Attack Rare. But surprisingly, according to Pokemon TCG Player, the original print from Phantasmal Flames is still way more popular – it was the 4th most popular card in the first quarter of the year! I can see why, though. The Super Illustration Rare from Ascended Heroes is already selling for over $1000 even without being professionally graded, and the Mega Attack Rare is almost at $100!
If you’re a Mega Gengar fan and want to actually use the card in your Pokémon deck, the standard version is your best option. It has the same HP, abilities, and attacks as the alternate print. Plus, the artwork is still great! Right now, you can find the standard print for around $4 if it hasn’t been professionally graded, making it the most valuable card from this year’s new releases. Even in perfect condition (PSA10 grade), it’s selling for about $70, which is more than Lillie’s Determination and makes it the most expensive popular Pokémon card released so far in 2026.
What’s the most sought-after Pokémon card you’re hoping to get in 2026? For me, it’s the rare Psyduck illustration from the Ascended Heroes set. Let me know what you’re chasing in the comments and join the discussion on the ComicBook Forum!
