Creative Assembly revealed a brand new Total War game during their showcase on Thursday: Total War: Medieval 3. The Total War series is known for its historical settings, including medieval Europe, feudal Japan (Shogun), and ancient China (Three Kingdoms). While the series also successfully branched into fantasy with Total War: Warhammer, Medieval 3 is the first time a non-Warhammer sub-series has gotten a third installment. You can check out the announcement trailer below.
Total War: Medieval 3 is in the very early stages of development, so it won’t be released for quite a while. The developers are sharing information and asking for player feedback now to help shape the game as they build it.
A new engine for new games
Total War: Medieval 3 is being built on an enhanced version of the Total War game engine, called Warcore. This upgrade aims to improve the game’s technology, offering more realistic physics and better character movement.
A key benefit of this new engine is that it allows Total War games to be released on Xbox and PlayStation consoles. While the developers will continue to prioritize the PC experience, they are now opening the door to console versions in the future.
Currently, it’s unknown whether Total War: Medieval 3 will specifically be available on consoles, so we’ll have to wait for more information.
More Total War to come

Beyond the updated game engine and Medieval 3, I’m excited to share that Total War: Warhammer 3 will be getting the Lords of the End Times DLC, bringing Nagash and the dramatic End Times event to the game in Summer 2026.
But that’s not all! Creative Assembly also announced they’ll be revealing *another* brand new Total War game at The Game Awards on December 11, 2025, starting at 4:30 p.m. PT / 7:30 p.m. ET.
I’m really curious to see what they’ve been working on, and I’m wondering what everyone else is hoping for. Would you be interested in playing a future Total War title on a console? Let me know your thoughts!
