Eighth Lantern Studios recently revealed its debut game, Toypunk. A trailer for the game was showcased at the Insider Gaming Show in May 2026, offering a first look at the project’s initial development stages.
Toypunk is a fast-paced, roguelite shooter where you battle waves of enemies and collect power-ups to become stronger as you advance. What makes it unique is its distinctive, toy-inspired art style.
Toypunk has a unique look inspired by toys and dolls – all the characters appear to be made of knitted fabric. This extends to how you improve your character, with upgrades appearing as patches that are literally sewn onto them. The game’s trailer describes the characters as puppets, and the enemies share this toy-like aesthetic, some resembling stuffed monsters.
Besides monsters, the game will feature lots of other enemies to defeat, like a surprising wave of rubber ducks overflowing from a bathtub.
The trailer highlights that the footage is from an early version of the game, which explains why details like the city backgrounds and weapon effects are still basic and unfinished. These elements are currently just temporary stand-ins created by the game engine.
The team creating the game is composed of experienced developers who have worked on major titles. They describe their game, Toypunk, as a wild mix of rubber chickens, puppets, used toys, and plenty of guns.
Toypunk doesn’t yet have a release date, and has only been confirmed for a PC release.
