I was absolutely shocked and heartbroken to hear about Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele. They were found dead at their home on December 14th, and it’s been confirmed they died from stab wounds – the police are treating it as a homicide. It’s just awful news, and I’m sending my condolences to their family and friends.
According to reports from Variety, the couple died just minutes after sustaining their injuries. Rob was found at 3:45 p.m., and his wife was discovered about a minute later. Two days after the tragedy, their 32-year-old son, Nick, was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder. He is next scheduled to appear in court on January 7th.
Following the death of the celebrated 78-year-old filmmaker and his 70-year-old wife – a photographer and film producer – their children, Jake, 34, and Romy, 27, shared a statement with People magazine on December 17th. They described their parents’ passing as “horrific and devastating.”
Our parents were more than just family—they were our closest friends. We’re so thankful for the incredible support, kindness, and condolences we’ve received from everyone, including friends, family, and even people we don’t know. Now, we ask that you respect our privacy and avoid speculation. Please remember our parents for the wonderful lives they lived and all the love they shared.
‘The Princess Bride’ Stars Remember Rob Reiner

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer
Over his long and successful career, Rob Reiner created some truly unforgettable films. He moved easily between genres, from the charming romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally to the hilarious mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap, and the intense legal drama A Few Good Men. His work, including the beloved classic The Princess Bride, continues to be analyzed and admired by film students and filmmakers worldwide.
After the passing of Rob Reiner and Michele Reiner, the actors from the popular fantasy film shared their fond memories and spoke about how much the director influenced them. Chris Sarandon, who played Prince Humperdinck, said Rob “changed” his life, while Fred Savage, who played the Grandson, expressed that Rob “gave me the chance to be involved in something that became far more significant than anyone anticipated.”
Mandy Patinkin, famous for his memorable performance as Inigo Montoya, recently shared a heartwarming story about a moment he had with the director while speaking with Entertainment Weekly.

While filming the iconic scene in The Princess Bride where Inigo finally defeats the six-fingered man and delivers his famous line, director Rob Reiner repeatedly asked me to tone down my performance. It wasn’t until later, when I couldn’t sleep, that I understood what he wanted. He didn’t want less intensity, he wanted to allow the character’s deep sadness and heartbreak to come through by reducing the anger.
I can almost hear him urging us to work harder – to heal ourselves, our communities, our nation, and our planet. He’s telling us to never lose hope, to keep striving, and to live fully for those who are no longer with us, for those whose voices were silenced too soon. We must speak for them and continue the fight for a better world.
