Get ready, Transformers fans! Hasbro is showcasing new figures at New York Comic Con 2025, and Comicbook has a first look at the Studio Series Skybound Energon Universe Optimus Prime. This special edition figure is inspired by the comics and even includes Megatron’s Fusion Cannon arm. Find all the details on how to get yours below.
This new action figure is based on a dramatic scene from the *Transformers* comic book series. In issue #4 (2023), Optimus Prime loses an arm in a fight with Skywarp and the Decepticons. Instead of repairing himself, he uses the Matrix of Leadership to power a hospital and help patients. Luckily, Ratchet manages to recover Megatron’s detached arm – complete with its Fusion Cannon – and surprisingly, attaches it to Optimus Prime. Now that’s what I call a powerful upgrade!

Hasbro at New York Comic Con 2025
Hasbro recently unveiled a new Optimus Prime at New York Comic-Con, continuing a trend of exciting releases. They’ve already shared highly sought-after collectibles from popular lines like Transformers, Star Wars Black Series, Marvel Legends, and G.I. Joe. If you’re interested in purchasing these items, check this link for availability.
There’s big news for fans of the *Transformers* movies! Michael Bay, who directed the first five hugely successful films, is returning to direct more. This ends his break from the franchise. There were also reports in June that Josh Cooley, the director of *Transformers One*, is getting his own *Transformers* movie. Regardless of whether that’s true, Paramount seems committed to reviving the series and finding new ways to address its financial challenges. Many, including myself, are hoping to see the franchise succeed again. According to Comicbook’s Kofi Outlaw, the new Skybound Entertainment comics and the Energon Universe could be key to a *Transformers* comeback.
