It’s surprising that Disney’s classic 1982 film *TRON* and its 2010 sequel, *TRON: Legacy*, haven’t been released on 4K Blu-ray until now. The upcoming third film, *TRON: Ares*, is what finally prompted the release.
Both *TRON* and *TRON: Legacy* are coming to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray for the very first time, and they’ll be available in collectible Steelbook cases. Update: These Blu-rays were initially sold out, but are now listed again on Amazon, which suggests a restock might happen soon. You can also check Walmart for potential restocks. Pre-orders sold out incredibly quickly earlier this month, so if they become available again, they likely won’t last long. Keep checking those links! We’ll add more retailer links to this article if we find them, so stay tuned for updates.

Disney has carefully restored the original *TRON* using digital scanning and the expertise of its film restoration team, with director Steven Lisberger overseeing the process. *TRON: Legacy* was also remastered, this time in High Dynamic Range, from its original digital files, and was supervised by director Joseph Kosinski. It’s likely that the bonus features included with both films are the same as previous releases.

Disney announced that both films will be available to rent or buy digitally on platforms like Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home. They’ll feature high-quality Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos sound. The 4K Blu-ray releases of both *TRON* and *TRON: Ares* will also include previously released bonus features.
As a huge fan hoping to own the complete TRON collection, I’m thrilled to hear that the 4K Blu-ray of *TRON: Ares* should be released around the same time as the movie hits theaters – around October 10th, if everything goes as planned!
Joachim Rønning directed *Tron: Ares*, written by Jesse Wigutow, who developed the story with David DiGilio. The movie stars Jared Leto, Jeff Bridges, Gillian Anderson, Cameron Monaghan, and Hasan Minhaj, and features a stunning soundtrack by Nine Inch Nails. *Tron: Ares* is scheduled for release on October 10, 2025.
