The first box office predictions for Tron: Ares’ opening weekend have arrived.
The new movie *Tron: Ares* arrives in US cinemas next month. Joachim Rønning directed the film, which continues the stories from *Tron* and *Tron: Legacy*. The cast includes Jared Leto as Ares, Greta Lee as Eve Kim, Evan Peters as Julian Dillinger, Jodie Toruner-Smith as Athena, Gillian Anderson as Elisabeth Dillinger, and Jeff Bridges reprising his role as Kevin Flynn.
How much is Tron: Ares expected to make opening weekend at the box office?
Early projections, as reported by Deadline, suggest that Tron: Ares could earn approximately $44 million in the United States during its first weekend in theaters.
As a big fan of the Tron franchise, I’m really curious about the budget for *Tron: Ares*. I’ve seen estimates floating around online, anywhere from $150 to over $200 million! The opening weekend numbers weren’t massive – around $44 million – but that’s actually pretty similar to what *Tron: Legacy* pulled in back in 2010. And *Legacy* ended up making almost $410 million worldwide, so there’s definitely hope for *Ares* if it can keep the momentum going.
Recently, big-budget movies shown in IMAX, such as ‘F1’, ‘The Conjuring: Last Rites’, and ‘Weapons’, have significantly outperformed their predicted box office earnings, according to a report from Deadline.
How well audiences and critics respond to ‘Tron: Ares’ will likely determine its box office success. It currently faces little competition from other major sci-fi releases, with the next potential contenders – ‘The Black Phone 2’ and ‘Good Fortune’ – arriving the following week, and ‘Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere’ the week after. Positive reviews and strong word-of-mouth could keep ‘Tron: Ares’ at number one until ‘Predator: Badlands’ is released in early November.
The new movie, Tron: Ares, tells the story of Ares, a very advanced computer program who enters the human world on a risky mission. This event represents the first time humans will come face-to-face with artificial intelligence.
Tron: releases in United States theaters on October 10, 2025, from Walt Disney Pictures.
