Truth, Justice, Whatever: First Supergirl Merch Drops (Exclusive First Look)

Following the huge success of the new Superman movie earlier this year, the DC Universe is off to a strong start. James Gunn and Peter Safran have successfully rebooted the franchise with a fresh, hopeful take on the iconic hero, and now all eyes are on the next film: Supergirl. The first trailer has just been released, and it hints at a very different feel for the series. The movie will follow Milly Alcock as Supergirl on a visually impressive journey across the galaxy, alongside popular characters like Lobo (Jason Momoa) and Krypto the Superdog. Fans are already excited, and the film is heavily inspired by the critically acclaimed Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic book series.

Following the exciting trailer release, DC is quickly offering fans a chance to show their support with a new line of merchandise. The collection includes clothing and collectibles so fans can proudly represent Supergirl. Highlights include exclusive items from the DC Shop, like t-shirts featuring the classic S-Shield and the film’s tagline, “Truth. Justice. Whatever.” These women’s raglan baby tees come in red and blue for $31.95, and women’s and unisex crew shirts are available in black and blue for $36.95.

Fans can now purchase a special Supergirl poster showcasing new artwork of Alcock as Kara. It’s available in two sizes, priced at $14.95 or $39.95. The DC Shop also offers clothing with the movie’s logo and designs inspired by the El family crest. These items are available now to mark the release of the trailer.

Supergirl Marketing and Merch Confirms Kara Is Not Like Her Cousin

The new slogan for Supergirl merchandise perfectly captures how the show is different from the original Superman. Superman was all about classic, hopeful heroism, believing in clear-cut right and wrong. Supergirl, however, is going in the opposite direction with a character who’s much more cynical and seen a lot of hardship. While Superman had a happy childhood on a farm, Kara Zor-El witnessed the destruction of her home and spent years lost in space. The tagline, “Truth. Justice. Whatever.” shows that Supergirl doesn’t share Superman’s ideals and suggests a tougher, more survival-focused hero who isn’t necessarily trying to save the world, but simply make it through it.

The change in tone seen in Supergirl is a clear example of the approach James Gunn is taking with the new DC Universe. Gunn has stated he doesn’t want all the upcoming movies and shows to feel identical. Rather than making everything look and feel the same, the studio is focusing on a variety of genres to keep the DCU interesting and exciting.

While Supergirl established a grand sci-fi foundation, the DC Universe is quickly branching out into diverse genres. The upcoming Lanterns series will be a down-to-earth, suspenseful mystery – similar to True Detective – with Kyle Chandler playing an experienced Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as the new recruit John Stewart. On the horror front, Clayface is a full-length feature film directed by James Watkins (Speak No Evil) and written by horror expert Mike Flanagan. This approach of tailoring each character’s story to fit a specific genre is a good indication that the franchise could thrive for years to come.

Supergirl hits theaters everywhere on June 26, 2026.
