Square Enix isn’t likely to create a new Parasite Eve game, so we’re hoping a small studio in China will take on the challenge instead.
When Parasite Mutant was announced last year, fans were excited, and now you can get a hands-on experience with a demo before the full game comes to PS5 in 2026. However, the demo is currently only playable on Steam.
The good news is this game doesn’t need a powerful computer to run well. Its old-school style means it can likely run on older desktops or laptops, even if you don’t have the latest hardware.

You can also watch the complete 30-minute gameplay video, which is included above. It strongly resembles the game Parasite Eve.
The battle system is a delightful return to classic gameplay. It lets you fully control your character, and you choose attacks through simple menus. We especially appreciate the option to use melee attacks when you want to save ammunition.
This game is still under development, and we’re working on improving the accuracy of the shooting. We also feel the opening level’s visuals could be more vibrant. However, we’re pleased with the character design and think the gameplay is heading in a positive direction.
Based on the demo, which is around 5% of the complete game, we estimate the full game will take roughly 10 hours to play. This is similar to how long it took to finish the original Parasite Eve on PlayStation 1.
We still don’t have a firm release date, only a general target of 2026. Hopefully, a demo will be available on the PS5 soon so we can see how the game is progressing on that platform.
