Two highly-rated role-playing games originally released on the PlayStation 2 are coming to the new Nintendo Switch 2. The PS2 is often considered to have the best collection of RPGs ever, featuring popular series like Persona, Kingdom Hearts, and Dragon Quest. Now, one of the most beloved RPG franchises from the PS2 era is getting a revamped release on the Switch 2 with several enhancements.
This week, Square Enix announced that Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2 are coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 next month, on July 23rd. These games are considered some of the most beloved in the entire Final Fantasy series. Originally released on PlayStation 2 in 2001 and 2003 to widespread acclaim, Final Fantasy X and its sequel have remained popular thanks to remastered versions packaged together as Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster. It’s this remastered bundle that will be available on the Switch 2.
Although Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster has been available on the original Nintendo Switch since 2019, the version for the new Switch 2 will offer several improvements. Players can expect a sharper, clearer picture on the new console. Plus, Square Enix is adding a high-speed mode and the option to disable random battles – features that haven’t been included in other console releases of the game. This makes the Switch 2 a potentially ideal way to play this remastered collection.
Square Enix will sell Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster for $49.99. Unfortunately, players who already have the game on Nintendo Switch won’t be able to upgrade to the version for the new Switch at a reduced price.
