Rumors suggest that two new Mario games are in development for the Nintendo Switch 2. One is expected to launch in 2027, while the release date for the other is currently unknown. Both games will be exclusive to the Switch 2, as are all Mario titles. One is a traditional Mario adventure, and the other appears to be a spin-off featuring a supporting character from the Mario universe.
Okay, so I’ve been following this industry insider, Nick Baker – he’s usually spot-on with Xbox news, but he covers everything, including Nintendo and even Fortnite. He’s saying that Super Mario Maker 3 is in development for the new Switch 2, but that’s all he’s shared for now. No hints about when we might see it, or even when it could come out – seriously, nothing! But here’s the good news: he also mentioned that Luigi’s Mansion 4 is happening, and it’s currently aiming for a 2027 release on the Switch 2. It’s early days, but that’s awesome to hear!
Super Mario Maker 3
I remember when Super Mario Maker first came out in 2015 – it was only on the Wii U! Then, thankfully, they brought it to the 3DS in 2016. It was amazing! A few years later, in 2019, we got Super Mario Maker 2 on the Switch, which was even better. It’s a little sad the original game isn’t available anymore, but Super Mario Maker 2 is still going strong seven years later, and it’s the latest one we have!
Luigi’s Mansion 4
The first Luigi’s Mansion game came out in 2001 on the Nintendo GameCube. After a long 12-year wait, the series returned with Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon for the Nintendo 3DS in 2013. Most recently, Luigi’s Mansion 3 was released for the Nintendo Switch in 2019, six years after the previous installment.
Neither of these game series has appeared since the start of the 2020s, and fans are anticipating their comeback. It’s unclear how Nintendo could make a new Super Mario Maker 3 feel different from the last game, though expanding into 3D levels is one possibility.
