Fans who enjoy anime series often find themselves patiently waiting for new seasons to arrive. When a show is well-received, its audience typically gets some form of official update or news about the next season. This information is usually shared during the original season’s broadcast or shortly after the final episode airs, allowing producers to gauge the show’s popularity. However, fans of the anime “Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead” have been left in suspense for two years, eagerly awaiting the return of characters like Akira and their optimistic post-apocalyptic escapades.
The animated series “Zom 100,” adapted from Haro Aso’s seinen manga, was produced by BUG FILMS and aired two years ago on July 9th, 2023. Consisting of twelve episodes, the show gained significant popularity, even with its mid-season break due to production problems. Despite having a dedicated fanbase and receiving positive reviews, there’s been no word yet about Season 2. However, the reason for this remains unclear.
Zom 100 Season 2, When?

The enigma surrounding Season 2 of “Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead” ranks among the most intriguing puzzles of our contemporary era, alongside questions like the construction of Stonehenge, the unmasking of the Zodiac Killer, and the culprit behind framing Roger Rabbit. Despite no official confirmation from Kodansha or BUG FILMS, fans continue to hold out hope that the show will return for another season someday. However, with no definitive timeline in sight, we remain curious as to when this might happen and what could possibly be causing the delay.
Some people believe that Bug Films’ reluctance to announce Season 2 of “Zom 100” might be due to the production problems encountered during Season 1. The last three episodes faced significant delays after the series debuted in Summer 2023, not being released until December of the same year. Although the exact reasons for these production issues were never disclosed, it seems plausible that Bug Films would have addressed such challenges before starting on Season 2. Therefore, there’s a strong possibility that this delay in releasing Season 2 is primarily due to one major issue…
Zom 100’s Delay Is Thanks to a Giant New Anime

It’s no secret to fans of Vinland Saga that MAPPA has been focusing more on its other prominent anime projects. In the meantime, it seems that BUG FILMS is giving precedence to other shows instead of Season 2 for Zom 100, and there’s one show in particular causing the delay.
The upcoming animation production by BUG FILMS, titled “Witch Hat Atelier,” is based on the highly praised manga series penned by Kamome Shirahama. Anticipated for release this year, it’s considered one of the new top three fantasy anime/manga titles, alongside “Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End” and “Delicious in Dungeon.
It’s likely that fans of Zom 100 may receive the long-anticipated updates once Witch Hat Atelier comes out later in the year, although it’s also possible that this is merely wishful thinking.
Zom 100 is currently streaming on Crunchyroll.
