News surfaced in 2022 about a new, high-budget survival game set in the Alien universe, surprisingly being created by Grasshopper Manufacture. Recently, Mike Straw from Insider Gaming shared an update confirming that the game is once again in active development.
This project, rumored to be in development since 2020 and once known as “Marathon,” is now reportedly being worked on at Eidos Montreal, despite recent staff reductions. Sources describe it as a game similar to Shadow of the Tomb Raider, but featuring Xenomorphs. The game will likely feature three main characters: Aubrey, an engineer skilled with grappling hooks and magnetic boots; Ryuzo, who may be an enemy; and Ripley 8, with fans hoping Sigourney Weaver will return to voice the iconic character.
The game’s budget is around $75 million, an increase from $30 million. It’s currently planned for release in 2028 on all major gaming systems, but that date might change as development is still in its early stages. However, sources say the game is progressing well at this point.
The game centers around a crumbling space station and puts players against both elite soldiers and terrifying Xenomorphs. It’s a single-player horror experience focused on survival, where you’ll solve puzzles, carefully manage supplies, and use stealth. Enemies are designed to be intelligent and will change their strategies based on how you try to defeat them.
