Last week, a patch was released for the Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered bundle on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, adding new challenges, trophies, and outfits. However, fans of the series haven’t been happy with the new content.
Although the new outfits were released as a free update, players are disappointed with their quality. These 10 outfits weren’t included in the original game and each one changes how the game is played.
Players have noticed some visual issues with the in-game characters, leading to concerns they might have been created using artificial intelligence. Specifically, fans have pointed out strange details like odd symbols on clothing, unusual belt designs, and an overall lack of polish as potential signs of AI involvement. You can see examples in the images below.
The Reddit discussion shows fans are overwhelmingly disappointed with the content.
Papyesh2137 expressed disbelief at the update’s poor quality, wondering if the original development team had been replaced. They described it as ‘comically bad.’ Kutleki agreed, stating the update felt rushed and poorly made, with a clear lack of effort in both its design and implementation. They were surprised the update was even released in its current state.
ImpossibleWin3916 summed it up simply: “This is incredibly unprofessional and shameful.”
The backlash against the recent update has been strong enough that a developer from the original remastered classics has publicly stated they weren’t involved in its creation. Giovannu Lucca, the lead artist for both the 1-3 Remastered and Tomb Raider 4-6 Remastered releases, confirmed he had no role in the art direction of this new patch for the Tomb Raider I-II-III Remastered, specifically the Challenge Mode.
Lucca points out that the team who created the original game weren’t involved in updating it with the new skins. This has led many to believe that artificial intelligence may have been used to design them.
One player reports that the recent update seems to have created even more problems and glitches in the game.
Players are reporting several issues after the latest update. Some have lost all their saved progress, while others are experiencing unexpected music from the main menu during gameplay. Subtitles are also out of sync. A major problem is that many users can’t switch between different games or access challenge mode from the main menu because the options are missing. They’re forced to complete their current game and then restart the entire application to play something else, according to Aazzle.
