Until Dawn 2 Has Been in the Works for At Least 4 Years, as Actor Confirms Joining in 2022

With video game development costs constantly rising, it’s no longer unusual for games to take years to make. So, when actor Dacre Montgomery mentioned he started working on Until Dawn 2 around four years ago, it wasn’t a huge surprise. This news actually supports earlier rumors and confirms that Firesprite was hiring staff for the project as far back as March 2022.

It’s possible this interactive horror game has been in development for quite some time. Sony bought the studio in September 2021, and while they released Horizon Call of the Mountain in 2023, that project was a collaboration with Guerrilla Games. This means work on the new Until Dawn sequel could have begun almost five years ago, even before they started hiring actors and other staff.

When the game launches in 2027, it will have been nearly six years in development and twelve years since the original game by Supermassive Games. It will still feature the core elements players loved – like the ability for any character to live or die, and the impactful ‘Butterfly Effect’ – but with a brand new story and cast of characters.

Okay, so in this game, you play as a team of paranormal YouTubers – basically, we pretend to find spooky stuff online. But here’s the twist: we’ve been faking it all along! That changes when we decide to check out this abandoned island… and turns out, it’s genuinely haunted. I can’t wait to show you more gameplay and details as we get closer to launch!
